Is This Game Dead?
I was looking at some discussions on Reddit. Everywhere it looked like this game is dead. I gave it a download and love it. I'd really like to get into it. Does anyone play it? Am I going to log on and just find everywhere is empty of other players?

i absolutely love this game, but sadly it is dead, it peaks at around 100 players on steam, and thats in 4 completely separate servers, so thats 25 players per server on average + 20-30 another players per server that play on nonsteam version. Its pretty empty game overall
heres the graphs https://steamdb.info/app/99910/graphs/
atm its 35 players online in all 4 servers together

DeJaVu, are there any games similar that are multiplayer? That game really scratched an itch for me.
It's not dead at all, but the people playing are typically the more experienced people or their alternate accounts. I've had no problem finding people to go on voyages with every night, ending up on ships with 40+ people for a couple of hours. The servers have cross-platform multiplayer so you will be playing with some people who aren't using Steam, so the Steam numbers don't reflect everyone playing.

Just found the server stats. Emerald (the server I play on and seems to be mostly europeans) has about 330 people playing right now.

I'm in an active crew with over 60 members. Occasionally there aren't enough pillages happening but you can always find something to do.
I agree the game is in fact not dead. There are a lot of groups/crews that are dormant but there are also a few crews that have over 100 members. Also the fact that only 100 people play on all servers is false. Right now on emerald if i type /who in chat it shows 450 playing on only one server. Ive been playing this game for over 10 years and while its silly at times it definately has character and even tho im mediocre at all puzzles i still enjoy playing.
try playing the the emerald server, it's the busiest one. I have no problems finding people to pilly with, regardless when I'm online.
It was hoppin' a few years (more like ten or something) ago for me and a few friends, we all stopped playing and I just came back a few weeks ago to play puzzles when I'm bored.

Its not that empty, sure its not as full as it used to be but you can still do all the activities you could 10 years ago. Even blockades get quite a few jobbers

If you visited Opal, then yes. That Ocean is dead. You can't do much there. If you change to an international Ocean like Emerald however you can find between 200-600 players online which is enough to do everything the game has to offer. Although you have to start as a Greenie again and all your stats are nil.
Anyone who thinks this game is not dead has either never seen it when it was "alive" in the early years (or even when it was slightly awoken in 2011) or is solely speaking of doubloon oceans-which were made to give the company who owns the game more money and took people away from the original sub oceans where people like me spent years (now wasted) on building collections, rank etc.
I log in once in a while to check for the last 3 years (I had bought subs years ahead to fuel my plum addiction once lol) and it usually has about 30 players if even. It is impossible to carouse-no tournaments-maybe a voyage, but if so usually held by a ratings snob who owns half the ocean. I used to hold decent pillages and voyages and have tons of jobbers, acquired the biggest house possible and filled it with pretty things I worked hard to collect and made lots of hearties-All these things are almost impossible to enjoy now. This game was RUINED BY ITS MAKERS AND NEW OWNERS! thanks for nothing...

Are you speaking of only hot times like Saturday afternoon? Some people do not have a M-F 9-5 schedule and used to be able to enjoy playing in the evening everynight.

Not sure what timezone youre in and what afternoon means for you. Never played on a sub ocean and i agree the game was a lot more lively when it started 10 years ago especially if you look at pillaging.
Again dunno bout your timezone but ive been in several kades just this year alone and they were durring different times of the day and every time there were several hundred people playing.
That being said i do agree that there are times when the ocean feels empty and i also share in your belief that its the fault of the game devs or publisher. This game has very passionate people playing and im not sure the devs deserve that because the only things that were done recently (thats several years i mean) were reskins and doubloon sales.
I never played on doubloon oceans. They killed the subber ones-that was biggest problem, but glad to hear some people are having fun still even if on the oceans that started the problem.

Yea so many times ive daydreamed of Puzzle Pirates with a sub ocean that has huge activity. Ive also played on meridian when i started and it was so much fun, stalls had a buch of business and blockades actually made sense.
