Grey havens should seriously consider the idea of selling out
Let's be real for a moment, having functional servers won't save this game from dying. If Grey Havens wants this game to survive, they need to start pumping out more content/updates.
I really don't want to sound rude or anything, but at this point, I just hope GH gets acquired by a bigger company.
What are your thoughts, peeps?

In my opinion, I'd rather GH just start development on a new SK. This game may retain its charm through its aesthetics but the gameplay/design is becoming outdated at this point. Sure you can have a bigger company update the game to fix those issues such as connection stability and further dungeons, but you gotta think of this from a business perspective, why would bigger companies get this game? The cost it would take to fix all these issues versus the profit to come from it all is too wide of a gap to invest into.

Huh... Now that I think about it, that sounds like a more feasible idea.
Even small spin-off titles could help revive this IP.

How long have you followed SK development??

OOO originally had the game and was sold to Grey Haven so they could keep it alive. Old member from SK dev are at GH so they keep it alive because of loyalty. Cronus still does announcement on the forum to this day.

I think you need to inform yourself a bit more. Nick Popovich left OOO in 2014 to make Slime Rancher. He is not coming back. When he left, a statue was made in his honor at Haven in the garden on the left.

Edit: This was just months prior to the battle sprite, dodge and shield bash update. It shows there was a split in decision or he wanted to branch off to something new. End of Edit.

The fact the game is alive is because GH has the rein and they don't push out promos every 2 week like they used to do to pay off SEGA/OOO. Now they release a promo each month and have brought back sleep status, added casino and style kit.

I doubt you have any idea how the behind the scene works for this type of project and I'll be honest, neither do I. I just know the history of the development of SK as I been playing and following it since June 2011.

Edit2: And I'm all aboard with Nick Popovich making SK 2.0 on C++ instead of Java. Just being realistic, SK will never get improved. The community did it.

A new game sounds cool. Maybe they can make a Kickstarter or make a tweet to see if people would like that.
As for selling out, the only publishers out buying smaller studios are crap ones like Gameforge or Gamigo who run the games they buy into the ground. If anything, I would rather them take the Epic Games deal, if that's still an option or Microsoft, since they are hurting for some exclusives/studios.

People in Kickstarter are willing to fund pretty much everything that looks somewhat promising, so I don't think Grey Havens would have too much problems raising money.
If you ask me, a Kickstarter campaign would be the smartest thing to do.
Not only because they could get enough funds, but also send the message that this IP isn't dead.

I'd buy that for a dollar.
The only real way the whole IP can move forward is probably through a co-op game with PvE focus and just solid modern mechanics. Otherwise the age of MMOs is gone and faded out,
it's just unlikely that any studio would revive this game or make an updated version like a 2.0 deal, because the chances of it going well are too small to take the risk.

Why did GH never port this game to consoles? It would do well on PS4 and Xbox One. Hell, maybe even Switch.

Probably because this game came out during the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii era.

There is no future for the game. If they would want to make anything with it, they would need to do a loot of work with it to make a really big update. Then they would need some way to advertise it, and I'm more than sure they don't have that kinda money. This game needs something big to get back into it's former glory. But for now, GH is free money and also a museum thats it nothing less nothing more. We can only hope for better days. The community is strong, there is some lovely people but thats about that. We keep it alive and ofcourse the whales. :BEsurprise:

This isn't a game that really caters to whales though. It's not WWE Champions, where people are dropping $1000 at a time to be 1st in a new event, guarantee themselves the new roster character and max it out immediately. Most people buy $10 of energy here, a few costume boxes there, some get a starter pack, some get Crimson Hammer, but as far as I can tell, there are no players just laying down wads of cash for millions of energy. This game just doesn't have enough of an economy or a microtransactions system to justify blowing that kind of cash.

not much incentive to fix it, it's too old. needs a rehaul alongside a re-release to get new players, there's no reason to dump effort into a game with such low numbers. people want to play something new and 10 years of exploring Arcade isn't much to run on. GH also has to compete with other games. a new entry in the SK IP may solve this.

there are many ways to change the gameplay while still being SK (could even do a new genre, rogue-lite or roguelike would be a very good compliment to the SK style), plus there is an opportunity to be funded through Kickstarter. there are still plenty of fans, including me, who would support SK on Kickstarter

i'd like if Monomi Park bought the rights, look how well they did with Slime Rancher. imagine what they could cook up?

Yeah and it's not just Nick Popovich that left OOO. Cherub and Chris Lum also went to work on Monomi Park.

2 months late, but if they started a kickstarter targeting 2012 players, they could easily raise enough funds to hire developers to make the final missions, tier 4 clockworks, and (depending on the success of the kickstarter) could at least start development on spiral knights 2. I'm sure theres enough people who remember playing this game 8 years ago and are willing to spend $20 to help revive it, its just a matter of them deciding to do it sooner rather than later
