What to use instead of Cobalt Armor?
Ive been hearing that Cobalt Armor and the Defender shield aren't very good, so what armor should i use in place of it? Does the same apply to the Solid and Mighty Cobalt Sets?

It applies to everything you make with the cobalt set. What you want to make depends on what you want to do. But I recommend the Grey feather set from hall of heroes, that includes the owlite shield. For weapons you can get specific blasters for guns, the blitz because you'll need it to grind endgame, and most swords from the brandish line are ok. If you're unsure about any piece of gear, just look it up in the wiki and you'll see the path to it and what you need.

I disagree somewhat. miracle is nice, but upgrading it to chaos when you are ready is IMO better.

Noobs need protection, not glass cannony sets, most of them ask for that, otherwise they'd complain about SoLs

but getting something like vog or volc demo is better. it gives fitting defensive boosts with offensive ones on top

Yeah, guess I should've thought of that. But it might not apply to their playstyle if they use guns.

gunners are generally safer due to the distance, so something like shadowsun will suffice. also padded, but it has negative status resist.

Defender shield (and its 5* variant) is not bad. You save ~40k on recipes. And most of the time swiftstrike buckler (good 3* shield) is enough. You need 5* shield for hall of heroes missions and for some hard misssions (where 3* swiftstrike is not enough). Better choice is Snarbo-shield but getting its recipes is a problem.

About defensive sets - it is harder to play with them. Low damage and low "charge time reduction" is a big disadvantage. For begining craft one piece from chaos set and second from defensive set (Grey or Vog).

PS. Cobalt is really a bad armor. No weapon bonuses and no resistances.

it is.
the most important thing about shields is status resistance and defender has none.

not much when you consider the total crafting cost. not worth it if you are going to get an objectively better shield some time later on.

Preferably a set that will make running the last dungeon in the game easier.

Because no other "dungeon" matters, amirite?

Well, that is pretty much correct.
