Unique Variant Forging is Low Risk Gambling
This is it! I've had it with this game. You might immediately think this is trolling. I don't care. The UV forging and reforging for something really good is a total rip-off! I just spent literally 20 bucks on energy for crowns for the UV forge. I just kept trying and trying to have high or at least very high for my khorovod and I got screwed over royally. The desire to see my avatar with great stats is what kept driving my desire to gamble with the forge. This is low-risk gambling because the only pay-out is enjoyment. Except now I'm pissed and I still can't believe I wasted my entire wallet card on UV's. I pretty sure I won't ever play this game again. Spiral Knights NEEDS a new system for fire crystals, heat and forging. I have a few ideas however I think I might just give up and hope the new devs can see the glaringly obvious rip-off UV's are. I call it the Forge of the Heaters. A new forge zone west of the bazaar where you can buy 'heat pods' and store heat. Then you can add 'heat mods' to the 'bellows' at the new gremlin forge and increase your chances for really great bonuses. Maybe something like having a choice between 'two' random UV's. Definitely a logical addition to the price for 2 UV's scaled to the same cost. For example, 1 UV costs 10000 crowns (plus heat pods) and then only another 10000 crowns for a second UV. This is one of THE MOST skewed systems in the game. All just to put a few new little accessories on a cartoon character. This game has held my attention for at five years and I'm actually working on a second character. I think that after today I might never play again. I'm not trolling...just angry. And I think I'm totally alright to complain about this because ...something...has...to...change. Otherwise more money will be wasted and for what? I lost the gamble again and all I really want to do is go back to the variety store and buy more energy. I'm sick because the system is sick.

forget UV rolling exists.
you can roll single UVs once on 5* items you intend to use that do not have a UV yet, but only once. if you want a specific UV, buy a 2*/3* item with that UV.

yes, UV rolling is more or less gambling. if you arent able to accept losing, dont gamble.
Here's a news flash for you: rolling UV's may not always produce results in your favour.

Going as far as spending real money without keeping that in mind is your damning mistake.

Nothing has to be changed, because there's no problem at all.

I've done countless UV rolls, back when i played the game and earned my CR, which was a tedious process but in the end, it got me some near perfect gear.

UV rolling is simply gambling with odds, and if you lost money in the process, there's really no need to complain.

The better option is to just buy UV'd gear...

My damning mistake? Why are you supporting a system you can't seriously accept is fair and balanced? How much money do you think I've spent on this game? For that matter, how much have you spent? Hundreds of dollars? How is this game not brought before the courts? There has been a gradual recognition of the low-risk gambling in these sorts of games with totally unfair odds. I am telling you so open your ears. I read the DSM 5 (that's a little book called the Diagnostic Statistics Manual Five). Included in this new edition that psychiatrists use are the new illnesses such as social media addiction and with a broader canopy of internet addiction. Because some sites have games too gaming addiction is being seriously discussed. Do I want Spiral Knights to be erased (like Darkspore) and all support is finished and we all throw away the hundreds we've spent? Absolutely not! Gambling for bonuses is within the category of 'pay for more fun'. It's not a pay to play scheme and it's not a pay to win either. It's a pay to have more fun. Yes...I understand that I don't have to gamble and can buy the items off the auction house. This system SHOULD be changed. Do you enjoy spending 30 REAL dollars for a tiny little monocle for your jelly helm? I'm not rich and I have created my characters and I love them and I love this game! Don't you want to see actual improvements to the game? This is a mature game in the sense that it has been around for many years and continues to have a large fan base. Don't you want to see a new zone? How about two new battle sprites for green and blue crystals? What about dual class champion monsters like gremlin beast riders? There is still a lot that could be changed without altering the current system. However, I'm already convinced that any new system will be shifted towards a low risk gambling choice. I'm thinking of publishing a guide to avoid being ripped off when playing Spiral Knights. Now what can you say to compete with my view? Take the moral high-ground and let your overblown pride take precedence over your better sense. You know it's a system designed to rip off gamers and I certainly don't feel like I'm beating the game because I've figured out how to fight the little scams in the game. I feel anger because I shouldn't have to figure out the screwy energy/crowns economy. With all the attention against pay-to-win set-ups and loot box controversies how has Spiral Knights flown under the radar all this time?

it is a crown sink. it prevents inflation.
without things like this that take both lots of money and can be more or less spent on forever, crowns would over time lose more and more value, since people will keep making crowns out of nowhere by farming.
where else does cr disappear from circulation? AH fees are barely worth mentioning, recipe costs and crafting fees are once only, guild hall upkeep is tiny. that leaves featured auctions (since they arent made by players) and guild hall furnishings, both of which are also fairly limited.

actually I have spent in that ballpark. sounds crazy, sure, but not so much if you consider I played since just over 8 years. it all evens out to less than most MMO subscriptions.

blah blah gambling is bad, learn to paragraph.

UVs do not really matter. you can boost your weapon stats pretty high with just chaos and swiftstrike. not getting hit is doable in most situations.
SK is a free to play game. the developers have to make money somehow. sure, in a perfect world there wouldnt be any microtransactions and homelessness wouldnt exist and every person on the planet has access to free food and water but no, the communist utopia doesnt exist and may never come to be. you gotta live in an imperfect world with imperfect people and play imperfect games.

Learn to paragraph? I'm not writing this for your specific benefit you egomaniac. Why don't you learn how to capitalize your next letter after a period. I've played this game for years too. Since the 23 hour renewal for your mist tank and the crystal farming for arcade gates. Simply putting homelessness next to the luxury of playing video games is a ludicrous parallel. Adding one simple vitamin called riboflavin that can be added to rice would save millions of people in China and yet the powers that be have not added this vitamin for starving chinese that can only afford a small bowl of rice per day. As it stands our planet cannot support itself and our first-world 'problems'. We would need eight entire earths to have everyone on the planet live like we do in North America. Get your 'edgy' wise little head out of your ass and stop pretending that the welfare for the planet is a communist regime. We need Thorium Reactors, reclamators for C02 and vehicle fuel created from the C02 we recapture (look it up...Canadian Energy...CE in Squamish). Improving a video is child's play and is indicative of the greed and ultimately the disdain the devs have for the people behind the success of their game. By the way, this took me three minutes to write.
Learn to paragraph?

Other than the fact that you're ranting about your loss from 'gambling', it's really hard to read the massive eye-bleed of text walls that you posted.

I managed to see this part, though.

The truth is, no one is being ripped off, because players know that they aren't going to get perfect UV's on a regular basis.

er. It's a pay to have more fun. Yes...I understand that I don't have to gamble and can buy the items off the auction house. This system SHOULD be changed. Do you enjoy spending 30 REAL dollars for a tiny little monocle for your jelly helm?

I've played SK for the longest while now, and i haven't put a single cent into it.

I've made a ton of memories with that game, and i've accumulated a crap TON of expensive in-game items without spending a single cent.

The two important things that you're missing are (a) time is an important factor and (b) SK is a free-to-play game and it's going to be grindy.

I used to put a lot time into it, because otherwise, i would not have had enough CR to purchase stuff that i now don't care about.

SK developers or those that maintain its servers earn income by those same microtransactions in game.

My damning mistake?

At the end of the day, you contributed to the developers.

Seriously, don't spend money if there's a better alternative to a system that is sort of like gambling.

Good for you kid. You insulted one of your betters. You betcha that's exactly what I wanted you to do. Read my 'eyebleed text walls.' It's called excellence. Copy pasta is a gimmick for self-appointed experts so that they can destroy an argument. You win...go binge watch on fast forward. I'm going to continue working on my novel.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell, no need to act like I personally insulted you.

congratulations, you missed the point.
which was, for your information, that people need money. people like those that are keeping SK running. people like devs, support, or just the people that keep the servers from falling apart. and that isnt even all.
all of those people not only want but NEED money. so they need to design this FREE game so people will in some way want to spend money.

what do you call it when all resources are shared equally?

now, could you adress the whole crown sink thing instead of focusing one something mostly meaningless?

Hypocrisy at its finest, lads!

At the end of day, you can be anything you want online, but being kind is one thing that's always over-looked.

Nice.
That's a lot of walls of text.

Kind sort of like the kindness the developers do for us? How did a discussion about a terrible system and a few good ideas for improvement lead to a state of chaos. I'm not making any apologies here. I can't stand having my contribution hacked up and pieced together so as to dissect my argument like a cut up ransom letter. I enjoy writing. "The teacher stands in front of the class. He's afraid of being a fool. He stands up there and regurgitates the bs he learnt in school." Now that guy wants to hear how I justify my "hypocrisy". lol...(that stands for laugh out loud? Right?) I would prescribe listening to Rage Against The Machine if such a concept actually existed. Prescribing experiences. What a novel idea. A colony ship's on deck psychiatry officer and his patrol squad. Thanks.

thats mostly your fault. mainly because the terrible system isnt terrible (see my post about crown sinks you still havent read) and your ideas were unremarkable at best.
