Darkspore

can we get steam credit for darkspore?
its a game that needed online and servers were shutdown not long after i purchased it forever ago. i am hoping i can get steam credit for this game and if i happen to find another that is unplayable even though i paid for it. feels like it would be a fair solution for anyone whom has an issue when a game does this. ideally valve can have EA cover what they made. i felt like i was scammed by them. its ridiculous when things like this happen. if the devs messed up its on them to pay the reprecussions. Not the customers that were sold a game that was a timebomb in disguise.

There was a time when Steam took action. They notified me that the game would be removed from their store and offered me two options:

Request a refund from the publisher (within two weeks, if I remember correctly).
Transfer the game to publisher's platform (Origin)
Since I loved the game, I chose to transfer it.

Some time later, I received an email from EA stating that the game's servers would be shut down and that I could request a refund within a month something (which unfortunately had already passed).

For years, the unplayable game remained in my Origin library, and I was content to see it there. However, with the latest EA client update, they removed old and unavailable games from libraries altogether!

When I contacted EA about this, they claimed it was a "complicated situation" and that they'll notify the relevant department. I'm sure I won't see the game in my library nor get a refund anymore. This is where I feel scammed by EA, not Steam. It wasn't the first time they'd caused me trouble, but was the last!

By the way, I totally agree with you. There should be some way to compensate players when the servers for online-only paid games are shut down.

If you had it on Origin you should've had some free games of equivalent value applied to your account, not sure if you had to go out of your way to claim this offer tho.

The support I spoke to initially said similar things. However, after looking into what they could do, they were unable to find any compensation solution because the situation was unforeseen and unprecedented. They said they would report the situation to the relevant departments. However, based on my previous experiences with EA, I don't think they will come up with any solutions. EA is a greedy company that doesn't care about its customers.
