Wasted opportunity for character creation
Honestly, I was hoping this would've been something about us creating our own personal hero, fighting along side the surviving legends. Would've been cool! Think of a mix of infamous and city of heroes

But this way we'll grow to love the new Miss Marvel!

That would have been a good feature. It is interesting that DC is more open to such.

I have zero interest in character creation. Why would I want to play as an off brand hero alongside Spider-Man, when I can play as Spider-Man?

Because its you, you make your own choices in your own narrative. Maybe you witness a bad ass legend being taken down? Could add more emotion to it. New builds. New hero types. Customization. Go online and see what other character people have created, what builds they use, etc. I think it'd be cool, but to each their own.

You can still do that with the current heroes. They've already said each character will have multiple skill trees. One person can build a lightning Thor, while another person can build a more melee focused Thor.

This is a linear brawler game. There won't be much choice for anything except what character you play and how you tap the buttons.

Apparently you wouldn't. Just as apparently, others would.

Selecting from a set of pre-defined ability trees isn't the same as creating your own character. It doesn't matter if it is lightning Thor or melee Thor, as either way it is still Thor.

So, no, that is not a substitute for what is being proposed.

Regardless, Marvel doesn't have much of a history of providing games where one can create their own character so there isn't much reason to expect that here.

Why would I want to play as Spider-Man for the umpteenth time, when I can be my own creation and fight alongside Spider-Man?

Go play DC Universe Online if that's what you were hoping for.

It's too out dated. If they updated it to better combat and gameplay, I would in a heart beat. Honestly though, I'd rather have less MMORPG and more deep story-telling. Imagine fighting beside the famous heroes, watching them fall one by one, etc. Would make for a pretty cool story in my opinion, but whatever.

Not to mention the cinematic experience and battles you could see. Thor is MUCH stronger than so many other heroes. This would translate well to a game where you are NOT thor (or the weaker heroes), but instead can watch the difference from them fighting in battle. You're out number and surrounded, then BOOM Thor lands.

I'm surprised they went with this game at all. They seem to be more interested in low effort, mobile game cash grabs.
