how do you save?

I know this is a shot in the dark since this seems a rather deserted forum but gonna try. How does one save in this game? I've not gone far and done the fireplace check points but had to exit the game to take care of something and the only option on the mennu is 'new game' I checked the 'how to play' and didn't see a save option.

If I missed it please tell me.

Or does it autosave when you've reached a certain point?

You probably have figured out that the game saves your progress automaticly at fireplaces, but if you somehow didn't know, now you do :D
