Story and characters any good?
While I'm interested in the alternate history setting and I enjoy other games with similar game play, nothing really drags a game down for me like a cliche story and trope characters. Anime-like games can be very hit or miss for me because of this reason. How does this game fair with the story?

story of the game is average
like ordinary animation
I dont think the story is amazing or ground-breaking, I still enjoyed it and I liked the story and characters. The story is also not that long between missions there is not a whole lot of dialogue, game really focuses more on the gameplay aspects I think. It includes some tropes but I still had a good time with it. I think it depens on whatever you like the theme, if you are intrested in the French revolution you will most likley enjoy it more with how many characters and events are based off real life.

I think the story flows. It doesn't have enough surprising plots or dramatic character development, but it flows.

The story is fine. Although the design of the characters is anime, I feel they are more french than japanese. Unlike in Fire Emblem, where you have so many characters that it's physically imposible for all of them to have an important role in the plot, this game gives the spotlight to every character you meet. I mean, Murat was one of the first units I was given, and after those first chapters, I didn't expect him to keep having dialogues. But he did.

So, no, this is not "we're in France but we are still japanese school-girls, let's go kya all around". Female design is attractive, but I have failed to identify a single male unit who represents the player in order to have a pheromon-filled adventure with loads of boob-touching and whatnot.

As I said before, the story is fine, which is not without its own merit. So,a better answer would be, no, the story is not japanese-cliche horrible. While limited in developement and shorter in comparinson, I like these characters more than most of Fire Emblem, which is something sad to say imo.

This is good to hear. The story doesn't have to be amazing or something new, as long as it is well told with interesting characters. I'm glad the characters don't fall into the checkbox tropes that Fire Emblem characters do. One of my biggest gripes about FE is how one dimensional the characters feel.

I do have to say, the only character that kind of disappointed me was D'eon. I knew a fair bit about him, and was looking forward to see how they handled his particular claim to fame (culminating in a laughable trial) - whether they stuck to history or actually made him a woman. I did not expect such a...macho(?) interpretation.
