For instance depending on your gpu you could have a game that goes 60-90 fps fluctuating but with this you lock it at 60 and you get a steady 120hz instead with the generated frames.
Or sometimes for instance X game only can hit 60 frames because the engine is too demanding on the cpu or what not like starfield in most of the intensive areas... locking the game to 60 fps and using the frame get to get 120-240hz depending on your monitor and your gpu can be a lot more ideal than dealing with fluctuating 'real' frames.
