Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Does it work with GSYNC
If I try to run a lower resolution that what my display supports it doesn't work right (short version.)

Will this display properly using gsync at 144hz? I actually run 165 but I assume it wouldn't matter.

I am also interested in this question, but your wording is a bit confusing, what do you mean by

G-Sync isn't resolution dependent, it would work on lower resolutions, though some games are not supported in windowed mode.

I do not know for sure, but most likely G-Sync will not work because several testers reported that FreeSync does not work. Sorry, if so, I can not do anything.

If I run a game at a lower resolution than my native monitor resolation, with gsync enabled, it produces a black border around the entire screen. In other words, I only get 1080p worth of my 1440p displaying a picture.

I was hoping I could use this app to run a lower rez for higher perfomance, because my 1440p is small and I doubt I would see a difference if I ran a game at only 1080p. But it's not really made for that.

That doesn't have anything to do with G-Sync though? There are options in Nvidia control panel to select different scaling modes, go to Nvidia Control Panel, then go to "Adjust desktop size and position", from there you can choose different modes, yours is probably set to "No scaling", select "Aspect ratio", or "Full-screen", there shouldn't be black borders around on fullscreen.

Nope, set to scaling.

But I did check, for arguments sake.

Well, that's strange, I don't know what's your issue is then, but black borders are usually appear because of scaling modes.

i tested it with G-SYNC Pendulum Demo

in NVIDIA Control Panel under [Set up G-SYNC] i have set [Enable G-SYNC for windowed and full screen mode].

in G-SYNC Pendulum Demo Configuration i set the resolution to 800×600 and clicked OK. then i hit alt-enter until it was windowed, and then pressed my hotkey to enable Lossless Scaling.

both the pendulum and the test pattern moved more smoothly when trying the G-SYNC option in the demo versus the Vsync option. so i believe it works

What is your native resolution? I am interested in this but I have 1440p monitor, and I'm hearing mixed feedbacks.

my monitor is 1920×1080 so i can fit a 640×480 game at 2× and an 800×600 game (Diablo II) at 1.5×

or if a game allows custom resolutions like the Turok remaster i can set it to exactly half (960×540) or a third (640×360) of 1080p and lossless upscale it for a nice lower resolution look without blur

I tested this in BF1 and I couldn't get it to work when Gsync is enabled. Disabling Gsync makes it work correctly and is possibly due to Gsync not working in windowed mode unless it's the foreground application.

It's questionable whether it's truly necessary when scaling a 720p image but it might be useful for those wanting to scale 1080p to 4k.

Lossless Scaling should work when G-Sync is enabled for windowed mode. That mode is some sort of DWM hack that Nvidia uses to enable variable refresh rates for scenarios not natively supported by Windows, and from my testing the use of the magnification API in Lossless Scaling doesn't prevent this hack from working as intended.

Note that G-Sync for windowed mode is a bit glitchy at the best of times, and requires the game to have focus and running in the foreground as otherwise it will not work properly. If you're experiencing sudden frame rate losses or similar that mode is almost certainly the cause of it.

I also highly recommend restarting the computer (a full restart, not a shutdown -> power on as that isn't a full restart if Fast Startup is enabled, which it is by default) whenever toggling G-Sync for windowed mode since the hack is so glitchy and might not working properly (or be disabled properly) until a restart is made.

Folks, I have a possible solution. Just enable image scaling Nvidia. If you want to help me, I just created a channel, Portuguese language BR, but can use automatic subtitles and soon after translate them. I hope I have helped 😉

I managed to solve it, after enabling image scaling.
