Amazon lets you translate reviews on the site itself.
I heard CS3 and/or CS4 sold better than the other games in Japan.
That's the data that really tells the tale, not a random sampling of online reviews.
So what is the sales data for the Japanese versions? Probably some stats about that are available by now, aren't they?
CS3 and CS4 had pretty similar sales, the numbers are not bad, they are more than the PS3 version of CS1 / CS2. However CS1 and CS2 were also on Vita so that's a lot more sales.
Hajimari's sale is definately going to be less than CS3 and CS4 given its name and not a game of the next arc.

Remember the The Banner Saga 2? TBS2 sales didn't break even but when TBS2 released, TBS1 sales soared and made up for it. They went ahead with the development of TBS3, knowing that TBS3 would only sell a fraction of TBS1 sales, but also knowing that they'd make their money back through a rise in TBS1 and some TBS2 sales.
Same thing here. With a box release coming in the form of Hajimari, Trails has been all over the gaming news. When people go to a gaming website or walk into a games store, they see articles on the latest Hajimari news, or a Hajimari advertisement playing in the store. People go "huh, that looks cool!" and they look into it, and then if they aren't already into Trails, they buy one of the older games, like FC, Zero, or CS1. And if they finish those games and enjoy it, then they buy the next game. And then next one. And so on.
Hajimari itself might not sell a lot but it's going to be very successful for Falcom.
I agree about the name part: but there's a simple solution to that which Falcom could fix easily: simply change name to put Cold Steel into the title. It's mind-boggling to me that they are choosing to remove that brand name out of the product. IMO that's an extremely horrible decision which is akin to them deciding to sabotage their own sales potential. I don't know how they can not realize that.
And I bet the sales will also be bad in the English version if NISA translates the title as "Trails of Beginning" or anything even remotely like that, which I've seen some people say they think that's what will happen.
naming it after one of the 3 series just doesn't seem right when it follows 3 different stories.
Sure, it follows after CSIV
but I think calling it Trails of Beginnings is appropriate as it's the "beginning" of a new trail for everyone after the events of CSIV
Also good sales won't translate to having a good view of the game.
People could highly anticipate a game, buy it, and just not have fun with the game at all.
Look at Sonic 06, the game sold almost 900k copies after release and I'm pretty sure no one liked that dumpster fire of a game.
That's not gonna happen in Japan, Falcom barely has the money to advertise their games. Not to mention because of the virus, physical games are probably going away sooner than we think.
Falcom should make more mobile games like SE if it wants quick Yens.
Too simplistic. That single arc is only one of 3 arcs in that specific universe. The Arc names are both location locked and more importantly CHARACTER locked. Sky is about Joshua and Estelle's story, Steel is about Rean's story and Zero was Lloyd's story. This new game is about ALL 3 of them as the MC at the same time, using the title of one specific arc ignores the existence of the others, not to mention the new Main Character, Swin.
AFAIK Estelle isn't in Hajimari. It's only (Hajimari prerelease info) Rean, Lloyd, and a new character.
