You can play Trails of Cold Steel 1+2 without playing the Crossbell games, it's my "hot take" that it's better that way as well.
There is a great fan translation patch coming for Zero soon, and Azure already has a good patch.
You do not need them to enjoy TOCS3. It certainly helps to understand some references ( I cant go into details without spoilers) but its nothing that you cant find in an online plot summary .There are also a ton of references to the trails in the sky series.
Everything boils down together on the last game but from the looks of it, we will get zero and azure before cs4.
That only stands true for CS3 though, in no way shape or from is zero/azure needed for CS1/2 and I'd go as far as to say the best play order is Sky, CS 1/2, Zero/Azure and then CS3/4.
Thanks a lot for the advice everyone. I've bookmarked the translations for later.
I didnt tell anybody to skip them. I said they are not necessary for an enjoyable experience and that OP should play CS on march instead of waiting for zero and azure who dont even have a release date yet.
Sorry but you need to fathom the idea that your personal opinion isnt a fact that MUST be applied to everybody else.
Bear in mind that there are no imports between 2 and 3. Only between 1-2 and 3-4. Or at least thats how it is on consoles.

The work these guys are putting into this is far and beyond what you'd expect from your typical fan-translation, and in many ways will likely be far superior to the official release when it eventually happens. Just read the most recent update on that page and you will see what I'm talking about. Easily the best fan-translation to ever be worked on.
