Trails to Zero and Azure
I heard a rumor they might be coming to the west. Could that be true? If so is it worth waiting for them before starting cold steel?

You can play Cold Steel 1 and 2 without Zero and Azure. I do highly suggest playing them before Cold Steel 3 though. Personally I prefer playing Zero and Azure before Cold Steel, there is a fan translation released for both and Zero is getting a better version of the fan translation by another group soon, but with Falcom's new remaster versions of both games we could start hearing of a localization sometime next year.

Thanks for the info. Btw here is a small snippet of an interview where the fakcom president suggests that they might think of an official translation for the rerealeases.

In no reasonable amount of time (if ever) will Trails from Zero or Trails to Azure be officially localized.

You can play Trails of Cold Steel 1+2 without playing the Crossbell games, it's my "hot take" that it's better that way as well.

There is a great fan translation patch coming for Zero soon, and Azure already has a good patch.

They will release to the west, it was confired a few weeks after TOCS 3 on ps4. They didnt specify the year though, but with some luck it will be 2020.
You do not need them to enjoy TOCS3. It certainly helps to understand some references ( I cant go into details without spoilers) but its nothing that you cant find in an online plot summary .There are also a ton of references to the trails in the sky series.
Everything boils down together on the last game but from the looks of it, we will get zero and azure before cs4.

So you'd tell people to not only skip the best two games in the franchise but also spoil them just to have a subpar experience of CS3? Not good advice.

Please go play Zero and Azure, not only are they critical for understand many events [and locations] in CS3 but Azure alone is still the best game in the franchise even after CS4, you'd be skipping out on one of the best games in the series on top of limiting your enjoyment of CS3 [and even more so later in CS4]

That only stands true for CS3 though, in no way shape or from is zero/azure needed for CS1/2 and I'd go as far as to say the best play order is Sky, CS 1/2, Zero/Azure and then CS3/4.

Got it! I'm currently playing through sky 2nd. For some reason I thought it was a great idea to get trails 1 on steam and 2&3 on gog. I could still import saves with some wiggling so it's all good, though.
Thanks a lot for the advice everyone. I've bookmarked the translations for later.

I didnt tell anybody to skip them. I said they are not necessary for an enjoyable experience and that OP should play CS on march instead of waiting for zero and azure who dont even have a release date yet.

Sorry but you need to fathom the idea that your personal opinion isnt a fact that MUST be applied to everybody else.

Bear in mind that there are no imports between 2 and 3. Only between 1-2 and 3-4. Or at least thats how it is on consoles.
crossbell will eventually will get localized and hit pc

They will probably be localized after they launch the PS4 versions, i'm playing Cold Steel without having playing any games from Crossbell Arc, i do check the fandom wen there is something i don't understand but i think that the in game books can give you an understanding of the other games.

Zero and Azure are really good. I love the mafia gang and plot twist after plot twist. Crossbell city is so fun to travel. The soundtrack is good as always (+1 for Geofront and Mainz Village). I played Cold Steel 1&2 before Zero&Azure and wow the West Zumeria Trade Conference part was so dope!

They’re getting PS4 remasters so chances of a localization are definitely higher.
NordProtector Jan 18, 2020 @ 5:07am
yeah the remasters will head to the west i give it 2 years since it's going to take a year before it comes out at all. This remaster answers the problem of trying to get the games on modern hardware.

Either way if you want the best experience with Trails from Zero, it'll probably be best to play the upcoming Geofront fan-translation.

https://geofront.esterior.net/

The work these guys are putting into this is far and beyond what you'd expect from your typical fan-translation, and in many ways will likely be far superior to the official release when it eventually happens. Just read the most recent update on that page and you will see what I'm talking about. Easily the best fan-translation to ever be worked on.
