The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

Lossless Audio Files
Since NISA provided the Lossless Audio files for Cold Steel IV, isit possible for the devs to provide us with the lossless audio files for Cold Steel III? Would be super good if they do.

*UPDATE*

Due to the hard work of alonesov, he has converted the tracks to a higher bitrate from the original OPUS format. Do give him the due credit in the comments down below.

To install: Rename the existing opus file in your game installation folder\data\bgm\ directory, and unzip this one there in its place.

NOTE: Currently the original opus.7z uses Reverie (Hajimari's) Battle theme and victory song. The higher bitrate Cold Steel 3 battle theme and Victory theme is in the GDrive folder labeled ed8004.opus and ed8450_OST.opus (Remember to remove the '_OST' before placing in BGM folder). Take both these files and replace it in your BGM Folder.

Yup, they should definitely do this.

In fact, they never should have released either CS3 or CS4 with crappy lossy audio in the first place. XSEED didn't do that with CS1 or CS 2. No good reason why NISA should be cutting corners in these regards.

It's actually better to offer the lossy audio as default and lossless as optional. Saves bandwidth, lessens the overall download & install size, and majority of users likely don't care nor notice any difference. While still giving the audiophiles the ability to tack on the lossless audio and double the installation size.
I am a total music snob when it comes to my games and this was the first thing I noticed when I played the PC version. By some coincidence I came across this thread while I was in the middle of converting the lossless OST wav files for this game to the most transparent (most lossless) bitrate and compression OPUS possible. The results so far are extremely satisfying and very, very difficult to tell the difference between the OPUS and the lossless WAV.
Since I know more people are looking for this too, I will let you know guys know when I'm done. It takes a bit of time to do because it's all gotta be done via terminal shell :reansrs: pulling the loops and then re-encoding with the loops since they can't be added in later to OPUS files.

Sounds promising mah dude, looking forward to it.
Here it is! Rename the existing opus file in your game installation folder\data\bgm\ directory, and unzip this one there in its place. Enjoy!

This file has Rean's battle theme and the victory bgm from Hajimari no Kiseki because I loved them both so much when I played that game... and I forgot to change it first. I can do the originals later if needed.
I had time to check most of the files to make sure I didn't make any errors with typing the loop points, but if you find any please let me know.
Hopefully the lossy voices aren't a major source of irritation, cuz with the music that is 5 times higher bitrate, it really accentuates just how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ their compression made it. :Rean:

I'll include your link in the original post. Thanks much for all the effort for this.

One thing alonesov, your 7z file isn't unzippable through normal 7zip. Is that intended? It mentions unsupported compression method: opus. Did you use some other zipping program to zip the files or your files in the GDrive may be corrupted.

Sorry, I was afraid of that when my cat stepped on the keyboard and deleted it! The new Google Drive for Desktop made it sound like it was restored okay lol... I can do again.
Alright guys here is a link to the folder itself. I downloaded it and unzipped it to make sure it was whole. Folder also includes Original battle theme, CS4 Battle Theme, Hajimari (Reverie)'s Battle Themes for Lloyd and Rufus, as well as a batch script you can use to lower the volume if you wish, as you will notice they are noticeably louder.

Thanks Alonesov. I was asking about a lossless version to Durante when he posted on reddit.
I'm quite the snob as well. Can't wait to play with it.

It totally ruins the experience for me if the music is garbage! I was so excited for Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne to be rereleased and I just can't even play it on my PS5 because there's no way to fix it. Those horrible compressed garbage bgm tracks were cringeworthy as it was back in the day... but nowadays it makes even people who aren't picky cringe and shudder and gag (and barf in extreme circumstances lol)

lol. I've got Nocturne on my wishlist for now. Played a bit of it back on PS2. It (SMT in general) has a killer OST. Promised I wouldn't play too many things at once, as I often get lost/bored or drop one. So I'm trying to keep it at one RPG at a time.

Cringeworthy..... I use to think there was no difference until i went from some cheap logitech 5.1 setup. Where each speaker was probably like 5-10 buxs.....

Now I've got floorstands/sub & receiver that are in the thousands lol. Add in the jump from low bit rate to lossless. I found myself loving tracks that I didn't quite like or use to think were overrated. Some tracks I love even more after hearing things I never did. It was another world.

Alright guys here is a link to the folder itself.

Thanks for your hard work on this mod. I've noticed that the loop point of the title screen track is slightly off. There are about 4-5 seconds of silence at the end of the track. It's not a big deal, though. I only noticed it because I left the game running while I'm doing something else anyway.

Other than that, I haven't noticed any similar bug, although I'm still early in the game (start of Chapter 2).
Thanks so much for doing this! The lossless music was really bad and as I used to work in audio hearing it with decent headphones is even worse. These files sound great!
@alonesov I realised you also changed the victory theme's to Reverie's. Could you also provide the higher quality files for the original cold steel 3 victory theme and whatever other file you replaced with Reverie's? Currently you only provide the Battle Theme track. Also perhaps the Opus.7z file on the GDrive should actually use the Cold Steel 3 Original Tracks. Cause currently the default Opus.7z uses Reverie battle theme and victory fanfare
