Trails will no longer be turn-based
Now that I baited you into opening the thread, Kondo gave interview on the future of series and the most important thing in it was big revamp of combat system. In short (here's hoping I didn't mistranslate it), action time battle will be used in Hajimari for the last time, and next game will be real-time oriented and have action elements. What exactly that means remains to be seen
Before circus begins, I want to point out that: 1) statements are very vague; 2) combat revamp isn't surprising, since we've been playing pretty much the same game since Sky FC
You can start hating Falcom now

I hope they keep it turn-based. I stopped playing FF when they abandoned it, and we already have Ys, so do all your ideas for action with those battle systems. You can shake the system up and do a ton of new innovative things while still keeping it turn-based. Dragon Warrior/Quest affected a lot of us for life. Give me Fight, Magic, Item and Run all day.
+1
Yup

LOL, it's gonna be an ARPG like Star Ocean, or one of the Tales games, or FF VII remake.
I think so too.
with some super limit break/CP powers.
To be honest, I think some of the old Legend of Heroes games (3-5) were action, and they actually changed it to turn-based for the western PSP releases. LoH 1 and 2 for Turbo Grafx were definitely turn-based though.

As I said before, the director of trails in the sky BECAME the president because he basically saved the company with his script for this new story arc.

They follow whatever he wants now.

Well, his script may have shot him to the top, but he'll be sweeping up after the office closes if he changes the battle system from turn-based or strategy.

I feel very secure in that they probably have something that is gonna be cool or else they wouldnt change it, if they have something bad, they would/will most likely scrap it before release anyway.

why would they abandon a working formula? make no sense. MY THEORY is that they wanted something fresh for the new story arc and tested a few ideas and some worked out great and they jumped to it.
As I said before, I love the combat as it is, but I can also see how a tales of/star ocean system could be fun, strategical, and make it feel like the party members come alive by fighting on their own and showing off their skills in real time. They might even go YS route.
With that said, if its crap, I will call it out. But anyway, remember, we still have cold steel 4 and hajimari to play- 2 more epic jrpg adventure, so lets relax and play them first :)

True, I was also the one who said to let the game come out first before shooting it, I just draw the line that something that seems good in a lab would be good in public. I know of a lot of games that *in theory* would work wonderfully, but once it got published, flopped beautifully too.

We'll see. In the end, we'll see once it comes out.

It's best to start the backlash against horrible decisions, like the one to ruin the Trails series by taking out TBS out of it, right off the bat.

Now there is still time & opportunity for the devs to reverse that horrible decision.

But if the game comes out before the backlash starts, then it's way too late to do anything about it, and the game(s) will be destined to remain crap forever.
the combat system might look boring and complicated for many to make it "main stream" much like FF has gone the Kingdom Heart routes with ff15 and ff16.
not defending their action or agreeing with it, but probably some survey ♥♥♥♥ in Japan.
If the combat is like tales of/star ocean im fine by it but anything like Tokyo Xanadu, and f that, I will complain :O

And what about the decision for you to talk about the "superiority" of Overdrive vs Brave Orders without playing the game and based only on an online review?

You don't even know if the system is "horrible" yet because the game isn't even out yet and is just blind blinkered biased guesswork.

You can fool some people by saying you "know" an already published game but anyone who can think will know that unless you are a Falcom insider, it is impossible for you to have played a game that has not been published yet.

Changing combat system is the least of my worries.
If they make the next ark a harem wankfest like cold steel again Im completely dropping this series.
I loved Sky and crossbell but Cs was just mediocre.
Just make it more like crossbell again with just a few characters that all serves a purpose in the group instead of this 1 character that does most things and his bunch of supports.

On the final chapter of Ao no Kiseki now, and the Crossbell games were definitely the pinnacle of the Kiseki series, although I loved the 3 Sky games too. I was pretty disappointed with the first two Cold Steel games, relatively. They removed most strategy from the battle system by making you overpowered, and the Nightmare difficulty is supposed to be hard, not incredibly easy. I also agree that having a story and fleshed-out characters that all play a part is better than Rean, and then a bunch of semi-generic classmates he can pick from to have a relationship with.
