He was a character in Trails in the Sky that came out 1995. The original Final Fantasy 7 came out 1997, 2 years after Trails.
Sky came out in 2004...
The original Legend of heroes has nothing to do with the trails games
The bastard sword could be the original FF7 reference, but Agate is nothing like Cloud. FF7 remade came out this year while CS3 came out in 2017 so pretty sure there is no FF7 remade reference. There are very few video game / anime voice actors, so you see them everywhere, it's just a coincidence.
It sold millions of copies in a few days, I am sure it felt like flop to you.
It does not make it a flop though.
It sounds like FF7R is targeting the mainstream and casual player. I am sure a lot of hard core JRPG fans might get disappointed, but it is not necessarily a bad thing.
I have not played FF7R yet. Out of the other FF games I have played, I spent like 30-40h grinding out of the 100h play time, which are pretty hardcord. I felt like they could really cut down some of that grinding.
where 50% midgar feels like.. unexplored wasted potential, not to mention the final chapter twist that most old fans dosnt seem to like
And the Trails games have nothing to do with the FF games, especially the terrible later ones like FF7 and/or FF7 Remake.
So no, Agate cannot be "a reference" to Cloud.
There is nothing new or innovative or original about a warrior who carries a huge sword. FF7 is definitely not the first place where that's ever happened. They certainly did not 'invent' the concept.
Let's hope that continues.
There's actually a lot of people who hate how the Trails games are long and have tons of content, and they proactively advocate for Falcom to start making super short, rip-off games instead (but which will still be sold for $60 USD MSRP despite being short), and they say things like 12 hour long games are better than Trails games solely because the 12 hour long games have better graphics.
If Falcom starts listening to that kind of terrible advice, then future Trails games will definitely become scams.
1. FF7 was The most famous JRPG of all time outside of Japan and it came out in 1997 years before Trails in the Sky (2004). Cloud is probably the orignal JRPG protagonist that uses unrealistically huge bastard sword. So yes, Agate can be a reference to Cloud.
2. Yeah you are always saying longer games are better. Have you played MMORPGs? Strategy games? You can easily sink thousands of hours into those games. Does it makes them better than all the JRPGs? Maybe not. Does a longer VN have bertter story than a shorter VN? Maybe not. Does a long TV show better than a movie? Maybe not. You know what is rip-off? The consumable DLC of the CS games. It costs $132.26 for all the DLC in CS3. You can expect all future Falcom titles have more and more DLCs
Why pay for some ♥♥♥♥ consumable dlc when I could just play on easy and beat the game blindfolded and without any strategy?
Its not like the game got anything locked behind playing it on harder difficulties or anything.
Another thing would be if it was like Agarest where true ending is Hardest only and the game is brutally grindy with mind numbing combat.
hard difficulty = you might take 4 min to 30 min to fight same boss (witch offcourse feels better)
im still pissed off for not refunding FF7R, crappy casual hack and slash game with nothing to do with rpg element
