Besides that, while their work may have been good, XSEED is notoriously slow too, couple that with most of the team being gone, it may not be an exaggeration to say it would have taken years to get Cold Steel 3 if it was up to XSEED.
A fan TL of the game has been out for years. The English localization came out last year on PS4. No one has spotted any notable differences.
A lot of the people who worked on previous Trails games worked on CS3. Ryan Thompson, Brittney Avery, and Kris Knigge.
NISA has the resources to grow Falcom in the West that XSEED did not. It's that simple.
Apparently there might have been a spat between Falcom and XSEED, as in recent interviews Kondo has thrown XSEED under the bus, so who knows.
1. NISA offered more money
2. NISA is a branch of a Japanese company (there are still a lot of nationalistic tendencies in Japan's business culture)
3. NISA promised a simultaneous PC port of the last Ys and while they buggered it up, it's far likely the CS3 contract started before that release.
As Tsurayu says, though, XSEED is a definite shadow of its former self and possibly not even able to tackle a project of this scale now.
They made the mistake of heavily tying themselves to Senran Kagura and when the last few games in that series bombed hard (the Sony content guidelines were part of it but they also bombed hard on PC. Series fatigue has simply set in)
XSEED lost a ton of money and had to shed a large portion of its staff including those who NISA scooped up to help with this game.
But they probably left because Falcom refused to give XSEED the contracts for Ys VIII and for CS3 & CS4, and for the Crossbell games, etc...which is exactly what Falcom should have done.
Had Falcom done the right thing and gave those projects to XSEED, then most likely the situation you described in that quoted statement wouldn't have ever occurred. And instead XSEED would have been fully intact and stronger than ever right now, and consequently we would have gotten great ports & uncensored versions of all of those games I named and also of other & future Falcom games.
So it's a moot point screaming about Xseed still localizing CS3 as if they could pull off what they've done in the past. It doesn't sound like they have much of their old team to begin with.
NisA has actually been advertising Cold Steel 3, which is something Xseed wouldn't do for their past Falcom games.
XSEED put out a big blog post about the Rune Factory delay. Apparently they had to learn a whole new suite of localization tools Marvelous developed for the title AND also did new French and German translations.
I would have thought it was always clear Sky and Cold Steel were localized for western audiences. There's constant phrases the Japanese don't say and vice versa.
Hate is a strong word. I wish these companies would try harder to stay truer to the original Japanese script, and take fewer liberties. Some localizers are better than others at this, but NISA is definitely a company that allows itself too much. I'm not talking just about CS3 here.
