walk in different direction from facing
is it possible to detach the movement from the direction you're facing because whenever i look around which i do a lot in vr games i start walking in that direction and i dont want to. im playing it on vive and have had no problems with it so far.

No. Unfortunately there is no option for this and if they intented to implement it, they would have communicated this to the community on launch.

This is a pump and dump psvr port and apart from fixing the issues with some hmds on launch, there's nothing to indicate that they are intending to provide any following support for the game.

Was the only deal breaker for me, I would just see how much it bothers you and refund if its an issue.

I prefer controller-directed movement over head-directed, but I've adjusted. On the Vive you use the left trackpad like it's a joystick, so if you want walk backward, you have to touch the bottom of the trackpad.

What I find helpful is to point the controller where I'm looking. This helps preserve my "I move in the direction of the controller" reflexes.

These A holes have abandoned this game.....Dont expect anything from them.....to not put such a basic feature into a high profile game shows just how basic that company is.

In the Oculus Quest you can look in one direction and keep moving in that direction by strafing but yes, forward movement direction is controlled by the way you are looking. Not sure how you handle that on a Vive headset.

In the same way, you strafe..

just dont look in another direction when doing it ,♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb
The original question is how to continue moving in the direction you were originally going to whilst looking in another direction. The answer is to move the joystick in that direction while you are looking around = strafing. Albeit you have to adjust the angle of the strafe the more you turn your head so looking 90 degrees left would mean pushing the joystick about 45-90 degrees to the right while looking left to continue in the direction you were originally wanting to go to. Pretty simple, at least on Oculus headsets. Not sure about Vive or others.
i dont understand how poeple can be so dumb as to not knwo how to fix this... if you want to run forward and look left just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ run slightly right when yu look left. you move your character direction in the opposite direction as you move your head that way your character keeps moving in a straight line. luckly for those plems that cant seem to process the complex minefield that is strafeing ooooooooooooooooooo they have aded that stoopid features where you now move in the direction your hand is moving why the ♥♥♥♥ anyone wants that is beyond me. but htere you go you weirdos have somehting now.
that being said, my GOD the new index controller key maping is easily the dumbest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing i have ever seen in ym entire life. only a button to turn right (cant turn left) what the actual ♥♥♥♥) no reload button at all (gues i have to play gaige now :P ) jump button is on the sma ehand as momvent but is a diferent button so you have to stop moving in order to jump. what the actual ♥♥♥♥ wher thye thinking, its like a mentaly challenged 2 year old from a forain contry set up these controlls WTF.

It seems like it's unlikely that you'll actually listen the answer, but I'll give it a shot.

Unless you're playing something like Onward where you grip your weapon with both hands, hand-based movement direction is strictly superior to head-based movement direction. It's more precise and faster than joystick or trackpad based strafing.

Among other things, you can continue to move in a straight line while looking from side to side. Point the controller the way you want to go, look around. It's dead simple. Whereas if you're using HMD-based move direction, if you want to move in a straight line while looking about, you have to constantly alter your trackpad direction to match subtle turns of your head, and it's unlikely you'll do it right. Watch someone else doing it and they look like a drunk who can't walk straight.

Railing against it is like, oh, railing against twin-stick shooters as "stupid" because your direction of movement is completely independent of your direction of fire.

The main drawback? Two-handed weapon grips, like I mentioned. If you've got a VRTube or similar gunstock for sniping (and believe me, they're a big help for a stable sight picture), you have to either point the entire rifle the way you want to go, or temporarily detach the off hand from the stock.

EDIT: Having now played a couple of hours with the patch, I'm baffled as to why you're upset. You can turn HMD-based movement direction on if you want. Even if you do use controller-based directions, the trackpad's still active. You can still strafe with it, so the stuff I mentioned about two-handed grips isn't relevant. You can strafe without changing the direction of you off hand, if the need arises.

Hang on. So they fixed it? It's no longer locked to HMD direction? Or is it still broken?

Should be fixed with the new patch.

The principle of the joystick is the same across all platforms and not exclusive to Oculus. Just FYI.
