Hopefully we don't have to fight 14 of them at once.
For gameplay purposes, that would be the same. I remember there was even regulations about them in modern Wizarding World (That stupid bimbo reporter from Goblet of Fire? She's an unregistered beetle animagius. was very specific about being unregistered.), So I bet that would be a source of debate during the game period.
I wonder if we'd have to chose one, or if that 'ancient, legendary magic' bit in the game would allow us to be multiple forms.
Book/Movie to video game adaptations are usually not very good. Don't board the hype train, it goes to Azkaban and not Hogwarts.
Animagus does indeed sound like a most useful school of magic.
I have the entire history of movie to video game adaptations behind me, which some would argue makes it fact and not "negative".
Facts don't care about your feelings, gang.
It's not really a school of magic. You drink a potion (which is incredibly difficult to create), and if everything goes properly, you gain the ability to transform into a specific animal.
If things go poorly.... well.... the side effects are irreversible.
Not to mention, the first step towards creating the potion, is to place a mandrake leaf in your mouth, and keep it there for an entire month. You can not swallow it, and you can not accidentally spit it out.
That's one of the ingredients. The others are
The chrysalis of a death's head hawk moth.
A hair plucked from your own head.
Dew collected from a place that has neither seen the sunlight, nor been touched by human feet for 7 days.
Once you have all those collected, you place it in a vial and leave it in a place where it won't be disturbed. You then must wait for a lightning storm (however long that takes), while performing the necessary incantation twice a day at dawn and dusk.
When the storm finally arrives, you retrieve the potion (which should be blood red in color at this point) and consume it, reciting the incantation one final time.
IF you manage to do all of that correctly, then you can become an animagus.
Oh, and just to clarify, a 'month' is considered to be from one full moon to the next. And the presence of pure moonlight is a vital component to brewing the potion. If the moon is obscured by clouds, or any other sort of obstacle, you have to do the leaf thing all over again.

Basically, the Marauders were 'ride or die' companions when it came to cheering up their friend Lupin.
