game also goes routinely on sale
The only problem is Steam's automated system is denying the refund without a human looking at the reason to realize I'm not trying to refund the game.
It's no big deal, just thought some other people may have been through this and had ideas on how better to contact Steam. That refund option exists for a reason.
I super appreciate the people scouring my profile for details to tell me why I'm stupid and should have expected this. Love you too.
I wasn't even thinking about sales. Saw the game on my Steam recommended and was like "Neat, didn't know it was on pc!", bought it, and saw the discount when I woke up the next morning. Just bad timing.
That's same with everything. AI replaces human on jobs like these to save money. Also i am certain that refunding a game just because its cheaper day after purchase is not acceptable reason.
Take a look at refund reasons in Steam Support, "It's now available cheaper" is one of the reasons. At the beginning of Summer sales, this option is put at the very top of Support page for on-sale games. It's been like that for years, I've gotten refunds this way before.
I'd post a screenshot of the refund & support pages that show the reason, but I'm not that clever.
Anywhich I'm considering this one a lost cause, not sure how to contact a human at Steam.
Send a letter.
There's a certain time/cost benefit to which it would make more sense to go work for the $40 instead of fighting it. After about an hour it's not worth it to pursue anymore. You've got the right idea though, if this needed to be escalated further.
Thanks for the advice!
