The shield break is *supposed* to only be unlocked if you have this talent - if it is active from level 1 that sounds like an unintended bug
The one where he never used Protego? He really made it hard on himself for no reason. But this being Asmon, I'm sure he did that on purpose for content.
Maybe it is, but I dont recall it happening for me. Since they also appear to be stating things without testing, who knows?
2. Do either dodge or preferably block with Q each and every time the warning reticle appears around your head. Not only do you not die if you don't get hit with a spell, you will get a free cast of Stupefy just for holding Q for a moment. If your shields are tapped out, that's when you dodge. Standing there and taking zaps to the face is how you lose. If you suck at this, drink an Edurus at the start of the fight (when there's the most potential incoming fire) but do not rely on it to save you--keep blocking and dodging.
3. Have a yellow spell, a red spell, and a purple spell handy in your bar and know by heart which you have on each key so you don't have to mess around with looking over there and then picking one.
4. Do NOT cast anything at anyone until you have first matched the spell to their shield color, which destroys their shield and you may now click your mouse button if you don't have anything better to cast on them.
5. Remember that 'Z' is also essentially a "free cast". If those little jerks wanted a fair fight it would be 2v2 not 4v2 so never be shy about smashing an loose barrel or crate into someone's smug little face.
6. Until you have whittled their numbers down, do not concern yourself with whether or not someone ran behind you--you'll still get the same warnings when they try to cast, and your shields will work just fine. However, no one should have to tell you to turn around if there are no attackers in front of you. *ahem*
7. Focus your fire. Don't go to extreme lengths about it, but whoever's shields you knocked off first, just keep nuking that person until they're out. Knock that shield down and then tap the CAPS LOCK. Making the fight 3v2 is the best possible opening strategy you can have, followed by making the fight 2v2, and you're not going to be doing that if you keep switching targets because someone got your attention.
8. If you've gone long enough to have two of each color spell, set up your second bar with the colors in the exact same order as the first one. This way you can fire off those first three spells with a mouse click or two in between, then mousewheel to the next set of sparkling fresh cooldowns, and then switch back. Which spell you cast doesn't even matter as long as it drops someone's shield so you can then burn them to the ground.
9. If you want the fight to end faster, you can switch to target the very first student your dueling partner lofts into the air and then burn them down. This is about the only time you should consider changing targets. The AI isn't great, but they do try to perform combos, which will mean two of you nuking one person which will take them out of the fight even sooner. (This does not mean to follow your dueling partner's lead through the entire fight--I tend to ignore them if I've already cast more than two spells on a student)
Honestly, if you're still taking more than a couple of spells to the face, spend some time deliberately failing the event and just practice blocking and dodging for a few rounds, or at least until you regularly live longer than your dueling buddy. Blocking and dodging don't just reduce the damage you take, they mitigate 100% of it, and you can't fail if you never get hit.
I saw somebody do it on a stream on hard mode. Three tries. Looked tough, but is possible.
It's not really that hard.
I also think this one against 4 or two against for is stupid as a sort of competition to see who is better and i my opinion a lazy gameplay decision. But i get it as a challenge and i can enjoy it cause the overall game is not so difficult, even on hard i think.
