Note that I believe the silent minority will indeed go for Gryffindor (being good) or Ravenclaw (narcistic values), a minority for Hufflepuff (= considered a bad Wizard) and the vocal minority for Slytherin.
Hufflepuff got their bad reputation from the books/films, being portrayed as dumb / bad wizards, which bring nothing extra to the table. They are mostly ignored and their Common room is the only 1 that Harry doesnt visit.
For characters, Cedric is told about the Golden Egg from Harry, is told about how to open it from evilCrouch and despite making it to the maze centre on his own, immediately brings himself into a situation where he is easily killed.
Tonks is portrayed with lacking Auror skills, several times throughout the books, looses her powers after Sirius dies and is killed in the final battle too, and so without any mention. The only good Hufflepuff at hand is Newt Scamander.
People go for Gryffindor because it appeals to being good and brave or Ravenclaw because it appeals to narcistic values. Being in any of these 2 means youre superior to others, that youre on the winning side, which is what people prefer.
Slytherin has that evil lure that other people like. But Hufflepuff, from a lore / film / books perspective, simply has nothing. This is the House for / of loosers. You can have good values added, but as per the by the books / films / lore portrayed material, youre always also a looser.
Ravenclaw = the house of Elon Musk
Slytherin = the house of Max Müller
Gryffindor = the house of Jordan Peterson.
Best Hufflepuff that ever lived.
Honey badgers aren't actually badgers though
It's the house reserved for Background characters.
I barely remember anything from Ravenclaw, but I know they at least contributed more to the story than Hufflepuff ever did.
Well, Cedric Diggory was the Hufflepuff in Goblet of Fire and he helped Harry with the 2nd task by telling him how to get into the prefects bathroom.
Cho Chang was a Ravenclaw Harry had a crush on who was just as good a seeker as he was (part of the reason he started liking her, she could keep up with him) and story-wise she helped Harry get past those first few awkward dates so he can learn and understand where he went wrong relationship wise, as well as see that the two of them were not compatible as he was being treated as a rebound boyfriend.
Luna Lovegood was really important to the story as a Ravenclaw as well.
Marietta Edgecomb betrayed the DA to Umbridge due to familial pressure, and her being friends with Cho is what broke Harry and Cho up ultimately because Cho was defending her friend and Harry holds grudges.
