Cryptic account - Arc account

Years ago I played Star Trek online with a Cryptic account, now I would like to come back but I have discovered that I need an Arc account and that it could be linked with my old Cryptic.
With this procedure, can I come back using my old characters and items or, anyway, they are lost?
Second question: if I start with new account, approximately how much time I need to reach max lvl with 1 character? (I can play 1-2h per day)

I had an old account also like you.
I contacted the new customer service, explained the situation, and they took care of linking up my old account to the new 'system' and I was good to go.
Took a few minutes at the most.
I went that route because I worked hard running my characters and leveling them, and did not want to lose anything.
Your items are NOT lost but the game probably does have some changes that would make some of your 'items' obsolete or work differently. One example off the top of my head, R&D materials. Your old ones (if you have any) are no longer used BUT if you click on them (in your inventory) and click 'use' they will get converted to the newer R&D materials (at a pretty nice exchange rate!).
My current Fleets (we have both a Fed and Klingon Fleet) has several members who are also returning to the game after being away for awhile, so we would welcome you to join us and we could help you out with any 'transitioning' you might run into...and have fun of course.

Thanks Grey, I have just asked to the customer service if is possibile to make the same thing. I hope it is possible but due to the fact that I don't have all info about the old account, I'm not sure if they can do that. Anyway, if I'll return to play with my old characters I'll consider your offer.
