That said, there's a lot more going on 'under the hood' when it comes to performance. Once you understand how the deeper mechanics work, you can faceroll with pretty much any ship out there. Buying a new ship won't magically make you better at the game.
And till your post Good Sir i though everyone would just sugest crap Ships all Day.
Yet the Ship is just a lifeless husk that does only slightly what it could do if you don't fill it with the appropirate Gear and Crew to maximise the potential.
So just asking for the most powerful Ship only results in you failing in a awesome Ship if you don't know how to fit and fly it.
Just a small nudge to think it all the way through.
That's deceiving.
Front weapon mount only has a real impact if you run a cannon (DHC) as soon as you go for beams only the total amount of weapon softpoints and your ships capability to capout weaponpower is of concern.
I want to add something to the previous posters comment on your playstyle matters they are right in basic PvE terms you could up to lvl 60 manage evey single Episodic Content (Missions) in a T1 (Starter) Ship the game does not realy throws a challenge at you so using suboptimal Shiphulls is not a problem.
On ground the same rule applies using miniguns and sniper rifles work great in episode missions but are awful for Instanced ques.
So it is on to you to decide for yourself do i just want a ship i enjoy crusiing around blowing stuff up in missions or do i want to be a Team content player and have to focus on specifig builds to maximise performance but limit my choice of freedom.
More weapons = more power drain you have to compensate for unless you want to completely butcher your damage after the first volley. Well-built Exotic Damage ships with a simple 3/3 weapon layout and minimal tactical consoles can easily curbstomp a 5/3 or 4/4.
If you want to increase your damage:
1.) Power overflow/Drain resistance. Energy Weapons drain power; you'll do more damage if you can keep your weapon energy as high as possible through your firing cycles. The power overflow hard cap is around 180; aim for around 150 with buffs.
2.) Stack "Bonus Damage" and damage multipliers to stupid degrees. Auxiliary Power Configuration -> Offense(Nukara Reputation Trait) basically turns Aux into a second Weapon Power that applies to all sources of damage(great for torpedo and exotic damage boats as well).
3.) Reduce ability cooldowns. There are many ways to do this and the most universal are some of the new starship mastery traits.
4.) Stack Damage Resistance reduction and shield/armor bypass. Things die faster when they have less effective health.
5.) Close with your targets. All Energy Weapons deal more damage the closer you are with them. You simply do a LOT more damage at <3km than you do floating around 7km.
125 is the soft cap and the point where you normally don't see a benefit beyond. However, the internal hard cap on power is around 180 and this 'overflow' can be used to buffer your weapon's power so it doesn't drop below 125 when weapons drain your power. This, combined with Weapon System Efficiency is the reason BFAW cruisers have become so popular in the current metagame - they can (perhaps too easily) negate the power drain of running 8 energy weapons at once.
Additionally, the Intel power Overide Subsystem Safety gives you a temporary boost to all power levels and removes the soft cap - allowing your weapon power to actually boost weapon damage up to ~180. This is why Intel ships are such deadly alpha-strike ships(they can strike a target coming out of cloak with Weapon Power, Aux Power over 125 alongside high powered crits via Surgical Strikes and all the rest of the usual damage boosts). It is, however, difficult to maintain power levels that high for extended periods of time.
Romulan ships I want to get the Ar'kif Tactical carrier but only have the T'varo Retrofit and Dhelan Retrofit atm. Loving the T'varo which is basically a B'rel Retrofit.
Fed wise I have the Atrox which was nice when it came out but was quickly replaced by the Armitage Heavy Escort Carrier. Was always a fan of the Patrol Escort so when they had the sale in Feb/March I bought it with the upgrade token. The Steamrunner in the Steam Starter pack is pretty much a Fleet Tier 5 "out of the box". Have the Andorian Escorts which are great DPS, fast and Agile but very fragile like the Birds of Prey and the T'varo.
So figure out what suits your playstyle and go from there. Sometimes you can get the flavore of the month/year and then totally hate it, yet you can also get one of the ships most hated by the player base love it. (Like me and the Bortasqu)
Until they release an Orion tier 6 I don't see myself buying another C-store ship other than teh Ar'kif be it paid Zen nor Dil converted Zen. But that is just my personal taste.
