I guess maybe they think setting up a base and defending against AI waves is a skirmish. The developers are either lazy, trying to copy TAB, or a bit of both. Its too bad cause i was going to purchase, not now.
So I bought it and now telling all my friends to get it to play coop with them which is the way to go with this type of game. I suppose player vs player would be doable in the future, might even be interesting, but what it does already makes me fully happy.
And yes, procedurally generated maps and ressources and enemy spawn location and waves. Not sure what more you can ask for a skirmish in a rts game. The enemy ai building bases I suppose? Well, you can roam on the map and find temples and kill bosses for upgrades "a la moba". But this is a survival rts, you get to defend yourself rather than attack. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but then which game is right? If you like the setting, coming from the mmo or the survival game, I'm pretty sure there is something in it for you and you will appreciate it. If you are looking for a competitive multiplayer rts like Starcraft, this might not be for you. I like having multiple choices. No need to say this or that is trash if it's not to your taste. Heck, I don't play Starcraft for the multiplayer, I do for the arcade ;)
To each his own!
Have a nice day ladies and gentlemen!
Right now it's a survival RTS. That is all it is.
You sound like a dev or someone hired by them. Sorry, but thats my piece of mind. On the other hand, you are right, that not all games are going to be peoples taste, but be honest. We did expect a traditional RTS, like C&C, COH, etc. Now we get this and it shouldnt be named a RTS, to be honest. Its a base defend game. Why not make one that is more RTS, that would sell alot more than just this. And saying you can wonder around, it almost not amusing. I would love total freedom, instead of just waiting for a wave to come. They could have made a RTS game and have that mode in the game. It is a missed oppertunity and it sounds like a money grabber, by having to pay for heroes (deluxe edition).
They should of made a real RTS game and had the survival mode in it or sell as dlc. How do you think they will make a full RTS game after making the survival game?
If the game becomes succesful, the developers will want to add new content in.
What it is now is a lower priced game and it's just not as huge in budget as the RTS game you want it to be. It's just the survival game and that's it. New content later. New modes perhaps.
Don't get me wrong, I've grown up with games like Dune and Command and Conquer and Age of Empire and a great many others. I LOVE rts!
When They are Billions came out, I was enchanted by this new mode (to me). I was always the "turtling" kind in rts so this is something I really enjoy.
Thus Conan unconquered falls directly into my liking category.
Plus, I really enjoy Conan Exiles as well and played lots of Conan MMO ( still have the collector's edition on my desk ). This universe talks to me. Now if I can get a date with Red Sonja ;)
I'm a huge fan of the classical style of RTS myself, games like Age of Empires and C&C.
But lately I like the more tactics and smaller battle style of Company of Heroes more.
The thing I really liked about Company of Heroes 2 is that each battle was different, you couldn't prepare in advance and always had to adjust to the situation. No two battles were ever the same.
So I have to wonder: what will keep this game fresh? How is defending your town for the 50th time from waves and hordes different from the first time?
The maps are randomly generated and the waves ( who will spawn and where ) are also randomized.
Not sure how that differs a lot from other rts, other than the fact we don't attack enemy bases by rather places on the map with enemies to get rewards instead.
Most of my time in CoE was spent building defences and waiting for the enemy to come (Go Brits!). Now I won't get to wait so much AND I know I'll have waves coming instead of my partners tank rushing their bases to end it.
Nevertheless, all those rts are great games. I remember when CoH came out and peoples complained that they couldn't make massive armies to roll over the enemy. The conviction that CoH was not a real rts because of that changed and it was voted game of the year I believe?
That's one of the most beautiful things about gaming. We can push boundaries and discover new ideas. Only limited by the imagination. Real life is already so constraining, why give limits to our artists?
What's the abbreviation CoE for? I don't think my head is working right at the moment xD
I need to know if I've played that game :P
