Download on Steam or through Arc?
I generally DL through the native client for things like this, but the Arc client restarts the DL if the connection goes out for ~few seconds. This is really anoying because it needs to download 8 gigs in a couple hours and my connection doesn't feel like being stable atm. I'm wondering if this is one of those mmos that actually makes sense to DL through Steam. Thanks.

It's just my personal opinion, but I believe it is better to play Cryptic games through Steam, which makes Arc irrevalent/redundant/unncessary.

Since the Steam client is dedicated specifically to the game in question, it's not cluttered up with the Adaware functions for PWE's games.
So I recommend that Steam be used to play Cryptic games, since the launcher is dedicated to a single purpose, running the game alone that it is downloaded for,

Also in my personal experience, if the download drops out due to connection issues, the dedicated launcher will pick up the DL faster again.
It will need to redownload a file if it didn't get the whole file before the connection dropped, but the files that completed download will be retained in the launcher cache, making downloading them again not required.

I dunno, it dropped over a gig each time and the total it needed to DL stayed the same. So it definitely started fresh whenever it was restarted, I got lucky and completed it, not sure if I care enough to redownload it through Steam unless the Steam launcher runs smoother?

I completely agree.

I still use the standalone client but play through Steam too. Only thing Arc was good for was getting free zen through daily quest of just powering up games. But even that no longer works as it stopped months ago on PC and they said they are fixing it but it's been months now. So Arc is totally useless and a waste now.

Use the standalone client or Steam now IMO.

I never had that experience with Steam, not that I was really watching the files download 1by1.
So it might be an Arc specific flaw.

I've had the Arc client completely crash on me already to the point where I had to uninstall and reinstall just to get it to work again. Running from Steam has given me zero issues.
