Stopping a murder before it happens
Contains minor spoilers for The Dead of Night

I was playing through the The Dead of Night case again after failing to save the second victim. I started a new game in the same city and rushed to complete the tutorial as fast as possible as I did not want to have to go through it all over again. As I already knew where the victim was I beelined straight to their house to get the search all over and done with, and who do I find but the killer themselves standing right outside the door with a gun. I immediately used the handcuffs given during the tutorial to arrest the guy and proceeded to break into the victim’s house to see if they were still dead. And who do I find but the victim themselves walking around alive and well. Now the tutorial thought that they were dead so it was pointing to the still alive person asking me to 'Find the time of death by analysing the cadaver'.

I am pretty sure that I have solved this case in the best way possible, no killings and I have stopped a future killer. But as this is not really what's supposed to happen and I can't really search a cadaver that does not exist, this save file is now inadvertently ruined by my heroism. This will be a case I will not forget in a while that's for sure.

(PS I have a screenshot of my glory if anyone wants to see)

Can we not solve crime BEVOR it happen?!
It just rises the question of free will and how we juge people in court for crimes they not yet (and never will have ) committed.
We are detectives not timetravling Judge Dread.

Joke beside: nice work! This maybe something we need in game like been able to protect future victims by finding a "kill"-list or something.

I know if your city's weapon shop get's shut down, nearly all murders cease.

I honestly didn't know that onni was still alive at the beginning of the game. Neat.

That aside, you didn't so much save him as delayed his death. The killer will break out of those cuffs after two hours then kill onni.
jea the fastest you can solve a case is if you see them get shanked right infront of you and instantly arrest or knock them out and get there information

I think he's talking about Kiara Simmons. It's insanely cool that it actually really happens in game, instead of some scripted out-of-the-game event.

The tutorial is heavily scripted, soo I suspect in the normal sandbox if you were to do something like this, it wouldn't break anything.

This game fully simulates the actions of every citizen in the city at all times.

If you think an NPC is off doing something like hanging out with friends, eating at a restraunt, or actually working at work, you can go and check, and you'll see them actually doing things that people do.

This is what makes the murders so engaging- every second of the murder is really happening real-time.

Yeah the tutorial is a bad representation of the actual main game

I like how you can go to the next victim and warn them.
