anyhow you get enough points to upgrade everything you want long before the game finishes
i ended up using the RPG, shotgun, and sniper most of the time, all the others i just used for the crowd control effects
How about NRG+CLN combos? My favourite is NRG charge+CLN RPG shot. It is a little bit tricky on far distances and low charge/reload speed, but brings great damage to the enemy.
1. Railgun - excellent weapon, ideal for long range fighting to take out snipers and aircraft. Get all the upgrades quickly
2. RPG - The best weapon to take down Gorillas quickly. The laser homing upgrade is a must-have.
3. Smartgun - I first picked up the lock-on thing in the train level, and couldn't figure out how to use it, so when I had to restart the level I picked up other upgrades instead. When I picked it up again and learned how to use it, I regretted not picking it up earlier, because that lock-on is amazing and more than makes up for the weak primary fire. Get all the upgrades for this.
4. Mortar - An excellent weapon paired with the stasis grenade upgrade, great at crowd control. Much more effective than the blaster.
5. Shotgun - This is a nice weapon, great for taking down lesser enemies. I didn't find the upgrades that useful though. The stun flechettes are hard to hit multiple targets with, and have too long a cooldown time.
6. Mines - The mine-layer doesn't seem that great at first - until you get the manual detonation upgrade, which helps a lot.
7. Grenade Launcher - An okay weapon which lacks the ease of use of the RPG.
8. Rifle - Not a great weapon, it shoots fast, but it's only effective on small enemies. It lacks crowd-control and area effect capabilities, which limits it further.
9. Plasma - Like the rifle, but projectiles so missing is easier.
10. Blaster - it does damage without you needing to aim, but the range is really terrible. It's only really good on small enemies, but eventually the small enemies just leap right through or over it to hurt you, making it ineffective.
