CLN vs NRG
Hey, trying to be carefull how i spend upgrade points as i am on insane and am wondering what everyone makes of the two weapon kinds? Personally i perfer the Energy weapon as the secondary fire to let you charge up a plasma blast is GODLIKE (and im on insane mode keep in mind XD) and the stasis feild looks great for escaping (though its nothing a charged plasma shot cannot obliteraite) and it SEEMS like the railgun would help against hard to reach enemies and through cover, though the mod to fire arc lighting and the homing shots seem kinda useless, the homing shots only work mid to long range and can still miss for me, while the arc lighting seems to put you in unesecery danger when like i said erlier one fully charged plasma shot would be better.

The only gun i really like in the rifle tree so far is the shotgun, its got a good knockback to it for controlling swarms and the paralize attack helps, though stasis field seems like a better choice and the shotgun blast is nothing comapred to a fully charged plasma shot :/ and the rpg rockets travel much slower than the fully chraged plasma shot which is also explosive.

Maybe the secondary fire on the base plasma gun is just a wittle bit op but i just thought i would see what others take was on them.

I personally feel the gravity grenade is superior to the plasma mine. It holds enemies close together and if you can manage to plant it near some splash damage...boom! Upgraded plasma shot is better than RPG because it's much faster. I always upgrade the shotgun with stun pellets, best way to deal with the small enemies.

i prefer NRG* due to the sniper and the EMP
anyhow you get enough points to upgrade everything you want long before the game finishes
i ended up using the RPG, shotgun, and sniper most of the time, all the others i just used for the crowd control effects

Sniper? There is no sniper upgrade. There's a zoom-in but it's almost worthless.

Well the zoom on the rifle is almost useless, the zoom on the railgun lets you see enemies through walls which combined with a shot that can also go through walls is... nice

Can't answer your question. Using one of them - ammo drains very quickly.
How about NRG+CLN combos? My favourite is NRG charge+CLN RPG shot. It is a little bit tricky on far distances and low charge/reload speed, but brings great damage to the enemy.

Well yeah, i have been thinking about getting the grav nade as backup just so every now and again i can trap enemies with grav and blow em up with plasma shot. Though ammo hasen't really been a problem for me, early on i got all the ammo upgrades for more ammo and quicker regen :/ But tbh i just don't really get the same "Wumph" that you get with the energy weapons when i use rifle you know?

Okay just for every1 to see, the firing mode on the energy gun that shoots 4 quad homing missles at enemies is SWEET, it goes through walls and deals alot of dmg even on insane.

I finished the game, only on Normal for my first run, but here are my thoughts on the weapons. I got all the weapon upgrades, although by the end I was only regularly using the first four weapons on the list.

1. Railgun - excellent weapon, ideal for long range fighting to take out snipers and aircraft. Get all the upgrades quickly

2. RPG - The best weapon to take down Gorillas quickly. The laser homing upgrade is a must-have.

3. Smartgun - I first picked up the lock-on thing in the train level, and couldn't figure out how to use it, so when I had to restart the level I picked up other upgrades instead. When I picked it up again and learned how to use it, I regretted not picking it up earlier, because that lock-on is amazing and more than makes up for the weak primary fire. Get all the upgrades for this.

4. Mortar - An excellent weapon paired with the stasis grenade upgrade, great at crowd control. Much more effective than the blaster.

5. Shotgun - This is a nice weapon, great for taking down lesser enemies. I didn't find the upgrades that useful though. The stun flechettes are hard to hit multiple targets with, and have too long a cooldown time.

6. Mines - The mine-layer doesn't seem that great at first - until you get the manual detonation upgrade, which helps a lot.

7. Grenade Launcher - An okay weapon which lacks the ease of use of the RPG.

8. Rifle - Not a great weapon, it shoots fast, but it's only effective on small enemies. It lacks crowd-control and area effect capabilities, which limits it further.

9. Plasma - Like the rifle, but projectiles so missing is easier.

10. Blaster - it does damage without you needing to aim, but the range is really terrible. It's only really good on small enemies, but eventually the small enemies just leap right through or over it to hurt you, making it ineffective.
