How to copy your Haven savegame from Gamepass to the Steam Version
Hi there,

I originally had a question on how to transfer your save file from the Gamepass version to the Steam version, but after a lot of trial and error I figured it out and thought it might be helpful to explain it for everyone else since I couldn't find a tutorial for this game just yet.

Background information: Microsoft Gamepass uses a totally different naming and folder scheme for their savegames compared to steam, and unfortunately it's more confusing. In the end it usually comes down to finding the right file, renaming it and copying it to the new location, but that can change for every game and sometimes you even need a savegame editor.

Fortunately in Haven it's quite simple if you know what to look for:

Step 0: Make sure no version of the game is running

Step 1: Find your save file from Gamepass:
- In File Explorer, go to "C:/Users/<Username>/AppData/Local/Packages"
- The Haven files are located in a folder called "TheGameBakers.Haven" followed by a weird ID string (Microsoft likes to rename and complicate folder and file names)
- Once in the folder, go to "SystemAppData/wgs" and click on the most current folder with another weird ID string name and then again the next ID string folder.
- You should end up in a folder full of weird files and at least one file called "container"
- Now sort by Date modified and find the largest of the most current files
- Keep this File Explorer Window open since you need it later on.

Step 2: Find, backup and replace the save file from Steam:
- In a new File Explorer Window, go to "C:/Users/<Username>/AppData/LocalLow/TheGameBakers/"
- Backup the "Haven" folder by copying it elsewhere, then delete it
- Start the Steam version of the game. Play about 1 minute until you're out of the Nest. This way the Haven folder will be created again and you'll get a new clean save file for steam.
- Now go "Haven/GameSlot_00" and delete the file "Save.json".
- Copy the file from Step 1 into this folder and rename it to "Save.json"

Step 3: Check it
- Start the Steam version of the game and click "Continue". It should jump right where you last saved your Gamepass version of the game.

I hope this will work for you as well. So far I didn't run into any crashes or problems, so I'm pretty sure this is the way to go.

This thread should be pinned, probably a lot of people will buy the Steam version now that Haven has left Xbox Game Pass
