How to switch target during combat?
I just got beaten by a couple of low level "bad guys" who whittled away my health to nothing because I couldn't target the one that was healing the others. I pushed every button on the controller, switched to kb/m to see if that helped, and then just yelled in frustration at the ridiculousness of the situation. Although I did discover the 'rush' combat button so I could at least speed up my demise. Did I miss a tutorial or something? Or is it so obvious I'm the only one who didn't get it?

The game auto aims, I believe.

Yep, that's how it seems to me as well. Strange though since for some creatures timing matters and, in some cases, strategy matters.

I thought target switching wasn't included because it would be an unnecessary complication, but if there are fights where it is an issue, that design decision does seem strange. There are certainly plenty of free buttons on the controller to add target cycling for character 1 and target cycling for character 2.

would be nice to target certain enemies. like to hinder them from attacking.

By design, your characters will usually cycle through targets on their own, one by one, which isn't very intuitive for people used to more complex systems. Furthermore, depending on which attack you will charge, they may switch targets instantly, supposedly because of their weak points. I witnessed that often : charge "Impact" and a creature will be selected - provided you ticked the "Show targets" option (or something like that) in the Accessibility menu -, but if you cancel that attack and charge "Burst" instead, another one may be chosen instead.
This often works well enough, but (as you pointed out) can prove counter-productive in some fights if a healer as to be take out fast or if you want to focus on a strong enemy without taking all the smaller ones first... In the fight against the Lorudo for example (which keeps respawing two minions, including a healer), this mechanism can prove to be your downfall - and using omni-capsules is the only reliable answer I found to counter this.

Pretty much. While its a simplistic combat, a little choosing wont harm it. but, as the games main core isnt combat, I can see why. After all, once you clear an isle, you never have to worry about an attack again. Besides for the far left side where rust keeps growing.

I personally do not have a problem defeating this enemy without capsules on normal difficulty.

ok yeah I'm confused, what to do you do before you have any healing items or damaging items, and there's an enemy that heals the other, and the game just refuses to target the healer? Am I missing something?
