FOUNDRY

Just release it already
Frankly, I had a lot of fun with the itchio version, more fun than I had with several other EA games (Starforge and Patterns, amirite?) and even in that state I would buy it on Steam. Just release it already, you can add features and improvements later on. That's what Early Access is for - release an alpha version of the game and let players guide you through the development with feedback and suggestions.

Sadly, the devs seem obsessed with releasing a 'perfect' version.
Shagar Jul 23, 2023 @ 5:50pm
After have seen there last "dev blog" i decided to remove it from my wishlist...
Noone on earth would have mind animation curves set to linear for v0.1.
Nah can't release it, we're tweaking animation curves, improving smoke vfx and before that were busy on mod support...
Don't get me wrong thoses are great and needed but that's some final tweaking for...an already released game.
What's gonna be next devblog ? Adding a lifecycle for the plants or a rework on the clouds that take in consideration a noisemap for the wind.
:lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Whatever they decide, i don't want to see the next one.

There is never a perfect version ;) Look at factorio. 10 years in EA and even after 1.0 improving.

Agreed, hence this thread.

You just added +1 year to the works with single message... Clouds rework. Ha-ha-ha.

I do agree in general. While people add or keep item in their wishlist, devs read it as "You do good job, keep on". Only after people start to delete the game devs will read as "we do smth wrong and need to change attitude to the project".

I'm in agreement. I purchased this 317 days ago on itchio and really; it's friggen ready for a Steam Release already. JUST GET IT OUT THERE!!!

This game can and will stand on its own if you just roll with it; there are FAR WORSE games on Steam; and while Satisfactory LOOKS better -- I LIKE this game more for the freedom it offers me in building.

So just GO with it. ROLL IT OUT; you're shooting yourselves in the foot! We got BIG GAMES coming out all this year, this is actually a decent lul before the end of August. So please just get it out there. 100% agree with this thread.

Either get it out there or UPDATE the itchio version so I can fiddle and test the stuff. I'm feeling REALLY left out right now, and it's starting to bug me.

Guys, you need to take the chill pill. Let the game developers make the decisions, as they are the ones that know best what the state of their game is right now. There may be some optimizations that haven't happened yet (playable on lower end systems means more players), or a pesky bug that has't been fixed yet. You are just watching the gifs and you think it's ready. They say that after 90% of the development has been completed there is still 90% more to go (meaning that the last 10% is as hard as the first 90%). If the game comes now and the game flops because of optimizations, bugs, polishing or simply not enough features who will reimburse the developers? You? The launch of the game is the games most important moment, especially if its an Indie game. If you don't get enough wishlists or your game starts with bad reviews, then steam won't promote it and the game will be hidden behind thousands of other indie game titles. If you really care about this game, and you want it to succeed, then wishlist it, tell your friends to wishlist it, and let the developers launch it whenever they think its ready and most importantly whenever they think its the right time (steam festivals draw alot of new players)

PS. You may think why tf they would add the curves instead of releasing it, or adding something more important, but small details like this really helps the game look more polished, therefore higher probability for a more positive reception.

From the game store page :
Why choose early access ?
“With Early Access the community will help us to create a better game since player feedback is crucial for complex simulation games. We will listen to your feedback and you may influence the development. Additionally your early support helps us to make the most of the potential we see in FOUNDRY.”

For How long will it be in Early Access ?
“We don't know yet, we don't want to commit to a certain date. The game will leave Early Access when the game has satisfied our high expectations for quality and amount of content. We expect to stay in Early Access for more than a year.”

One of the main reasons for Early Access is to get feedback from the community. We will always consider your input to shape a great game together.

There you go ... you got our feedback : 3 years of closed alpha to maybe 1 day comming soon get out in early access ... by the time it comes out technology will have updgrade ( satisfactory had a pain in the butt to switch from ue4 to ue5... but still the player base could play the game already in ue4 with minors functionality as it's ... EARLY ACCESS therefore peoples can excuse some bugs here and there get familiar with the mechanics, leave feedbacks.

Keep it in closed alpha release it in "when it won't have anymore bugs and will be more polished" years when everybody will have completly forget about that game.

There's nothing to early access anymore since it's been in developement for 3 years already, you don't want the community involved into it's developement. You don't want to do like everyone an early access. Suit yourself but don't wonder why peoples are so mean with there evaluations and can't tolerate a little bug here and there.

And since i don't want to do 300 post and it's kinda related :

They seem to listen to the wrong peoples.
Why is factorio the ref and is still played and enjoyed by so many peoples ? -complex content added by the mods. So seeing stuff like that got me even more worry for the future of that game :

"some things were just a little excessive in complexity" -Really ? Didn't faced any in the demo.

" having four different ways to make Xenoferrite Plates was just too much" -No it was interesting 'cause each were getting you more yield which was mandatory as you were progressing and your input of ingot were getting low instead of doubling the number of building in copy paste mode you could dig into not that much more complex way of making your ingots.

"While they (solar pannel) seem like the obvious choice for easy to use energy at start, most people just had an extremely frustrating first couple nights with powerless factories." -weird peoples... guess they had miss the part telling them about the biomass burner... That was indeed frustrating to gather manually some biomass ... which is why you work toward solar pannel asap ... logic...

" waiting until conveyor belts and building blocks (foundation) are crafted is no fun" -had automated them at start and never have been waiting for some... always had a chest full of them.

(too many mechanics introduced at once)
"solved this by changing the depth of the first underground ore vein, so that it can be reached with regular drilling instead of requiring advanced technology" -hmhm so the idea is to get rid of any complexity...

Different way of doing that without removing complexity could be :
-Short ingame video showing/explaining the new concept.
-Have some building already placed that demonstrate the concept in action.
-Have released the game in early access and let youtubers of that kind of game build and show some more simple way you had not thought of doing.

What's the point of a factory game if you don't scratch your head a bit... It's as rewarding as completing a tiers of elevator in satisfactory with the give command to get the needed ressource...

A year ago they had a good game, seemed ready for Steam EA. I think it would have done well. However things got odd, close Itch and get all secretive about there publisher. Who knows what we will get now. Not sure I care any more, and yes Shagar I like my Factory game to test me and scratch the head, for sure.

Is this correct that the last update to the downloadable playable game was in September 2022? That can't be right??????!!!!!!
Wish Maker Aug 18, 2023 @ 2:34pm
Pretty positive this game has run out of budget and is paralyzed by a perfectionist creator -- either that or wound up in legal issues about assets they've not be properly licensed to use -- therefore are unable to release without suitable replacement (which can also relate to lack-of-budget)

is the playable version on Itch.io still available?

Oh yeah; and it's quite alright really. I actually do recommend it. Shame it's not on Steam.

The only way to obtain the game currently is through the high seas.
