Why Still In Early Access?
Why Still In Early Access?

We don’t give ETAs. Deadlines create frustration and disappointment when they slip. Our priority is delivering features properly, not rushing them.

Cepheus Protocol will leave Early Access once our core roadmap goals are complete. At that point we’ll call it a 1.0 build, but development will continue beyond that with further updates and content.

Why This Pin Exists
We’ve seen more “Why still in EA?” threads recently, so this post serves as a clear reference. Not everyone reads pinned posts, but this gives us a place to direct questions back to. Threads that devolve into arguments or insults are locked. Criticism is fine, disrespect is not — regardless of whether you’re defending the game or not.

Roadmap Goals Ahead
  • Pandemic Mode Integration – Pandemic returns rebuilt from the ground up, now fully playable in Co-op. Fight across massive, evolving maps where infection spreads dynamically, and player coordination becomes key to survival.

  • Expanded Horde Content – Additional Horde maps will provide new challenges, layouts, and objectives to test both RTS commanders and Operators. Objectives, spawn zones, and progression will evolve more dynamically across matches.

  • Civilian Systems – Civilian evacuation mechanics, emergent groups, and ambient populations will make the battlefield feel alive. Dynamic civilian behaviors will introduce new tactical decisions — from protecting evacuations to dealing with outbreaks among crowds.

  • Vehicles and Helicopters – Ground vehicles and helicopters enter the Co-op battlefield, enabling tactical transport, extra firepower, and new mechanics for extraction, defense, and offensive strikes.

  • Enhanced Operator Customization – Tailor weapons, abilities, and appearance. Drive vehicles, gain progression perks, and refine your playstyle across Co-op, Pandemic, and Horde missions.

  • Improved AI Logic – Infected Lieutenants and AI behavior will grow smarter, learning to counter extreme turtle strategies and forcing adaptive responses from players.

  • Co-Op Multiplayer (up to 16 players) – Share command of CERC forces with others. Pool resources, coordinate tactics, and fight as a unified team. Player count scales with the map, now supporting up to 16-player Co-Op.

  • Canon Campaign Mode – Experience the official Cepheus Protocol story, inspired by the novel and side stories, with structured missions, narrative arcs, and pivotal choices.

What “Early Access” Means For Us
  • The game is fully playable now and receives frequent updates.
  • We keep the Early Access label because the game is still in active development.
  • Leaving Early Access too early would wrongly imply that development has ended.

At the time of writing:
We are still in the middle of a major rebuild — adding full co-op, rewriting core systems, and overhauling the foundation of the game. This post will be updated over time as milestones are reached. Always check the forums for the latest trajectory of development, and if you want to talk directly with us, consider joining our Discord where the dev team is active and available for questions.

To summarize:
  • You can play the game today.
  • Early Access will end when the roadmap above is complete.
  • Even after 1.0, development and updates will continue.
