Found a log the MA are interested in but cant hand it over

Found a log the MA are interested in, they tell me to hail them, I do so but there doesnt seem to be anyway to hand it over to them, i just get the normal "hail" screen with negotiate etc, side note clicking" lets trade" or "show missions" just scrolls the camera to the ship in question but doesnt do anything else, should it open the relevant screens etc?

I think this is a bug.

I think you have to accept the mission to retrieve the log before actually finding it. Then it will be sent to the other ship automatically and you get your reward.

I also once found a log without accepting the mission and couldn't do anything with it.
