hazardous gas buildup
my engineering section does have a door with an open airvent to the storage. the storage does have a door with an open airvent leading to the medbay. the medbay contains a fully functional gas scrubber. yesterday i had a significant buildup of toxic gases inside engineering. it even got to the point where i started getting occasional warnings about hostile environment when people walked into or through engineering, and the toxic gas spilled out into storage a little bit too.

why do i believe this was a bug?

1. i did not experience this before. used to be perfectly fine, toxic gases were never a problem at all.

2. my experience does not correlate with what others have reported regarding toxic gas (just have an air scrubber anywhere on the ship and a vent-path leading to it from your machinery and you shouldn't need to worry about toxic gas)

3. i saved the game yesterday, when i went to bed. i loaded the savegame right now, after i got home from work. things are now working normally again. the thick cloud of toxic gases has been removed by my gas scrubber and i no longer have this extreme buildup of toxic gases, even though i did not make the slightest change to my design.

how can this be reproduced?

no idea, honestly. it just happened for no appearent reason and saving and loading seems to have fixed it.

Are you sure there wasn't a fire? To be honest I usually have so many gas scrubbers in case of fire I'd be really surprised if I had any other issue (I think I have 6 in my 3x1 ship, spread throughout the ship).

Also gas output probably only occurs when the machine is in operation, so an unexpected sustained burst of industry could theoretically generate more than normal.
The other possibility is that same burst of industry overwhelmed the power grid and gas scrubber was unpowered at some point.

nah. smoke and hazardous gas are two different things. smoke comes from fires, hazardous gas comes from factories.

pretty sure that wasn't the case. i already had multiple industry bursts, where i micromanaged every crew member with industry skill to work there, hazardous gas was not a problem at all during those times. the bug did occur a second time, again after i had been playing for a few hours and just before i had to save and go to bed. i think it might be one of those bugs that only appear once the game has been running uninterrupted for a certain duration.
