Direlict ship got destroyed and turned to direlict ship

I was in a sector with a direlict ship. However I don't remember if it was claimable or not. The internal structure suggests that it may have been claimable, but not sure.
Micrometeors come in and start hitting me and the direlict ship. I get a message that the direlict ship is destroyed and turned into direlict ship. An AI faction jumps in and immidietly sends a boarding party to the direlict ship. For some reason I have their line of sight, when they are exploring the direlict ship.

Is any of that supposed to happen?

I'm playing on stable branch.

Yeah I get that notification all the time.
They are not claimable ships, just standard old derelicts.
But the first event to do damage to them will result in an "Ship .... has been destroyed".
No impact on gameplay, but pretty disconcerting the first time it happens, especially if you haven't yet renamed your own ships and think it might be one of yours!
