Request - Larger UI Scaling options
Hello,

Please consider adding the option to scale up to 2.5-3x, I'm just having a slightly harder time reading the text at 2x UI scale.

Cheers

Devs - how does the UI scaling work, does it look at the windows scaling or something?

I have 2 PC setups, one with an ultra wide 3440x1440 and one with 3840x2160 (this is a TV in my lounge setup).

I just tried it on my ultra wide and I can make the UI scale more with the same value than the 2160 setup. On the TV setup my windows scaling is 200%, does that factor in to it?

Just seeing what I can do to improve the scaling.

Cheers
hey...

so you're trying to make the panels/font viewable across the room, sitting on the couch vs on a monitor in front of you? who would need to go above 2.0 otherwise?! scaling is not a replacement for better glasses, grandpa! update that prescription!

joking aside though, you don't need their help, while the slider is capped at 2 probably to maintain sane settings, you can go higher as needed. in the settings.xml file in the main game directory, there's a line that starts "<prefs" that has uiScale= value on it, and you can set this to anything you want; the issue comes in that retinas, ultrawides, 4K HDR TVs, tiny but high-def laptop panels, etc all have different pixel density, so maybe for example 2.0 on 4k HDTV with big pixels looks like 1.0 on 1920x1080 16:9 computer desktop monitor with tiny pixels, so for now you got to resort to manual editing to set "4.0" that would be the equivalent of "2.0" on the slider, for that display... just know if you set it crazy high like 8.0 or something you might not be able to exit the game, the place to click will be drawn offscreen, and will have to force quit Space Haven and lower it.

and yeah I would assume windows scaling affects this, as it's part of the OS and affect all programs, but, I also think you just proved it. :-)
Hi there.

We can surely consider this. However, when we tested quickly the UI starts breaking up in various ways.

But you can surely give it a test. As Death Approaches mentioned there you can change it by editing a file:

Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceHaven

Open up settings.xml with Notepad and edit the line:
uiScale="1.0"

Try 2.2 or 2.4 at first.
I appreciate the feedback. I just changed the game to 1080p and everything was fine. I was just a bit concerned being a pixel art game the non-native res might make the art blury, but it didn't.

I understand though UI scaling is a pain in the butt.
I tried the settings xml tweak:

https://imgur.com/a/aFzlHfx native 2160p 2x UI scale.

https://imgur.com/a/bduUB9T native 2160p 2.2x UI scale.

It's just that smidge bigger I needed to make glancing at text in a management game a bit easier. It's perfect for me now.

I know it's not a conventional way to play games. But the setup I have is a very nice sofa which I've spent years wearing my butt groove in to, on a https://us.nerdytec.com/ couchmaster which I put the mouse and keyboard on with a long USB cable to the PC. The TV is a 65" 120hz VRR, connected to a Denon AVR with a 7.2.1 speaker setup that's something like 2500w RMS total output (not that I'd have it that loud, hah, it'd blow my head off).

I just like to make sure when I play games I play them at what I feel is the best experience, visually and audibly. Games are hard to make, been doing it for 25 years, I Just think it's worth appreciating the effort as best as possible.

Cheers
oh I think everyone understands that! and that's great you found your happy spot on uiScale. now just watch out for large pirate fleets on those hyperspace lanes, captain! 🚀🧑🏻‍🚀
Alright! Happy it works!
also worth noting, the UI scale doesn't seem to currently apply to in-game dialogue, there are a few places where you have to read text a character is saying when doing story missions and on high resolution the text is really small and difficult to read. it seems like the UI scale should apply to that as well.
