More Options for System Points (*Correction: Ship Points)
As a suggestion, perhaps we could have the system points be a variable that can be adjusted at the start of a new game, instead of a hard-fix number? So instead of just 8 total points for building ships, have it be an adjustable range at the game start (IE a bottom range of 2 system points, all the way up to 12 system points, or even 16 system points to make stupidly massive fleets to consume entire solar systems like locusts), that is then the "permanent" number of points for that save file.

I mean, for those of us who happen to be consummate loot goblins that attempt to hoard absolutely anything remotely shiny, it would be nice to have as big of a fleet as we can conceivably construct, and not just one big ship with a little ship.

It could also be adjusted the other way, for those who hate themselves and want to feel more pain, being actually restricted in how big they can build.

Putting that number on a slider value would be great for altering the feel of the game for repeat playthroughs, without actually doing much to the game at all. It would also be nice to have the ability to build bigger fleets without having to manually modify save files.

You maybe want to take a look at what the devs replied to systems points and why there is no option to change it.

My idea isn't really to change the way the system points work, just to add some variety to it. After all, having the ability to build two or three ships that are each 2x3 grid spaces doesn't get rid of all the logistical requirements to make it work and not have the ships essentially hemorrhage themselves to death.

Have you read the post? An official option to increase in system points leaves developers scratching their heads about what they need to consider to ensure enjoyable gameplay. It's not just about adding a slider. The devs also want to take responsibility for this so that the player can actually have fun using the system points.

Yeah, you're not getting the point I'm trying to make, and maybe that's my fault, because I keep seeing people in the discussion board use the term "system points" to describe both the grid size of the ship, and the number of points you get per grid square of ship size.

Looking at the description in-game, I was trying to refer to the "Ship Points."

Across all difficulties, you only get 8 Ship Points. The point I was trying to make was they should make the Ship Points a variable number that you set at the beginning of a new play-through, the same way we are able to adjust the scarcity of resources, derelicts, and enemies.

Then we could build bigger ships, or be restricted to smaller/fewer ships, depending on how hard or easy we want the game to be. The system points would still be the same hard-locked number per Ship Point.

Thank you for the clarification. That's a difference.
I think that many of the arguments made by the developers apply to both system points and ship points. I'm pretty sure the developers will add such an option if it's easy to do and there are no other concerns. They really care that a feature actually adds to the game.

In the meantime, the problem can be worked around by editing the game files. There is also a mod hosted on Nexus, but it has yet to be updated for the Beta 1 version.

Yeah, I'm aware of how to modify the save files to do so, but it's just a pain to do so. When you tweak it via the save file, it keeps you from being able to do other stuff like make small adjustments to where your ship is sitting within the build field, or easily claiming other derelicts, without then having to go back to the save file for some more manual tweaking.
