Report a translation problem
The problem with this is that every expansion would leave behind a bulk head you then need to manually remove anyway, whether you wanted it, or not... So it's not really a solution in of itself...
A better option would be to allow internal walls to be placed via the sketch tool, like the hull itself can be, which are then constructed automatically by your crew when appropriate...
Little trick I've started doing though, which might help you, is to fill the entire build area with the sketch tool, then use the erase tool to "carve" out my ship design, by removing excess around the outer hull, along with internal corridors...
It's not a perfect solution, but it certainly helps keep track of where I had intended to place rooms, etc as I only need to remember and "backfill" the newest walls when expanding the hull...
Just fill in the appropriate halls via sketch, before I add each new room...
