Asteroid rules
I just started another playthrough but adjusting astroid rules to force the game to give more basic ore, etc. in each system. I planned things and jumped to the first system with asteroid but I found out that there are only a few basic ore, etc. in that system. Is it a bug or I just get the meaning of the setting wrong?

I will try to write out how it works from my memory. It might not be 100% but it will explain why visiting only one sector as you describe will not show the effect of changing the value.

The asteroid rules settings are for quantity vs default.

The default is a balanced random variation of the resource in each star system. This means that a star system might be completely without basic ore for example, but that this will be taken into account and make it more likely to find a bigger score of basic ore in the next star system.

If you add more to the quantity vs default value you will get more of the resource per star system on average. But a value of +5 for example might be subtle when taking into account the variation. However, on average, you are still acquiring more of the resource for every star system.

I tried changing the setting myself to +20 and play a little and quickly met an asteroid with 13 basic ore. However, this does not mean you might not encounter asteroids with only a few on them. =)

So the quantity vs default setting is the resource quantity in a star system compared to default. So individual sectors will still vary a lot.

Thank you very much for your quick reply and developing such a wonderful game.

I just landed in the second system and I found 5 base ore and 4 exotic ore. Perhaps I was unlucky. I will try other systems to see if I am lucky in my next landing.

Correct me if I am wrong. Doesn't the quantity vs default 20 versus 2 mean that on average one should expect 10 times more ore?

If the default per star system is 10. Then a +2 setting would be 12, and +20 setting would be 30. So overall it is not 10 times more. But should be a big and noticeable difference still.

The random variation between star systems would add its own flavor to it, but on average one should get about 3 times more with a +20 setting. I cannot remember what the default value is, but something around 10 might be close.

Thanks for the information. Is there a reason for choosing the max setting to be 20? Is it possible to set it higher so one can play the role of miner and component producer?

I don't think there should be an issue playing that way with those settings. In addition to basic ore and exotic ore the base metals and noble metals can be set higher as well.

I often times see players swimming in resources later on in the game. Early is a bit more tight but setting those settings that high I do believe should allow for quite a bit. Of course if one does not move around at all then it is different.

Ok, I will try to move around more to see what is my luck on finding resources.

in most galaxies you get one system that is declared as resource rich, there you can find much bigger stacks of resources. only need enove luck that it isnt at the other end of the galaxie.
