Space Haven

Campaign missions are so hard!
I'm on peaceful, and I was excited about all the new campaign features, but after the 'tutorial' gather the beacon mission I got from the fleet, I was asked to go to a Siren world, set up a beacon, and defend it for 2 days in order to progress. So, I went there almost immediately and was promptly demolished by seemingly endless waves of rogue bots (with boarding parties) that were launched at me one after the other.

Reloaded and decided to fly around for a while to improve my ship and my odds, but even after 5ish hours, I'm lucky if I can endure 2 waves before my crew start dropping like flies.

I know that I'm not the greatest with video games, but am I really so bad that I can't handle one of the first missions on peaceful? The update fresh so I haven't spotted any other posts about it, but it would be nice to know if I'm not the only one having some trouble.

The irony is, that particular mission is an absolute hellscape to get through; honestly it is (in my opinion) the worst mission in the entire campaign.

While the alpha 20/beta 1 build was in unstable, I tested the campaign with an existing ship and crew. I had all research completed, and had a good industry built up with a mothership type ship, and a massive crew.

My first attempt at the siren world research base mission, I had to reload from an earlier save, it went so bad.

My next attempt involved building about fifteen asteroid point defense turrets, just to try to keep the outpost intact. Even with that, I had to have a pair of four man squads, all equipped with laser rifles and body armor, with significant cover objects, just to make it through without losses. Not injuries, *losses.*

Let me restate the objective here: I had to use eight crew with laser weapons and body armor, just to not lose anyone.

The mission is made so much worse by the fact that even when you blow up the robot dropships, they still will drop a handful of robotic troops to ruin your day. Not to mention the need to have at least a dozen point defense turrets to stop the rogue bots from blowing all kinds of holes into the outpost structure. Maybe even a few fighters, just to distract a few of them.

Needless to say, I absolutely hate this mission, even having played the campaign through twice already.

Edit: And yes, this was playing through on Peaceful difficulty. "Peaceful." Ha. Right.

We will tweak the difficulty so should be better in the next update coming out. The setting for quest difficulty was at normal even for peaceful, builder.

Regarding the unstable branch the early stages of it was particularly hard so it is not like that anymore. There were chimps (Walker bots) too which should not be present anymore.

Unfortunately only new games will have the new setting by default, but you can edit your saved game file to apply the change into your current game if you want to:

  1. Go to the saved game folder. E.G: Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceHaven\savegames\MySavedGameName\save
  2. Open "game" file with Notepad.
  3. Search for: questDifficulty="Normal"
  4. Change to: questDifficulty="Easy"
  5. Save and play.

If the mission is still too hard we will tweak more.

I am incredibly glad to hear this; it seemed really weird to me, how a mission that early on in the gameplay loop was that difficult, especially when the rest of the campaign seemed almost easier in comparison.

At the time, I actually wondered if it would have made more sense if the bot defense mission and the bug defense mission should have been swapped. Mainly because the bugs were actually easier to defend against than the bots.

Regardless, thank you very much for listening to our feedback! It is greatly appreciated.
Personally I liked it. I only play brutal and it actually felt like it.
I had to restart 4 times and plan carefully. Go back and grow more get more tech better weaponry too.

The missions are not timed so there is no rush at the moment to go straight to the system when they ask you to do so.

Could you make it the missions a punishment?
Can we have the option to double the ennemies number or something of the sort? I am fine with my crew dying. I have always 30 prisoners in my ship at all times. 😁

Harder difficulties will still stay hard, maybe even harder now. 🙂
