Space Haven

Space Haven

So the game is on sale for 60% off, but it is worth the purchase?
I normally steer away from Early Access games, but I've been watching Space Haven in development for years and wonder if it is worth playing at this time. Is it mostly feature complete? Is it rather buggy or glitchy? Thanks for any help!

I don't know how can someone tell you to buy or not to buy a game. Since there's no demo, the next best thing is to buy it and play it for two hours. If you don't like, you'll get a full refund as long as your play time doesn't exceed 2 hours. And if you did like it, just keep it.
And by the way, the game is very cheap, its full price is little more than $5, so what are you so worried about?

I have the same dilemma about: https://store.steampowered.com/app/538030/Xenonauts_2/
it costs way more and I still haven't decided. Well, actually, I did play the game and liked it, but I need to be "in the mood" to want to play it, plus my backlog is too big as it is, so this why I still don't have it. I will though.

It can be pretty janky and UIX still isn't the best though it's been improved markedly, but it has a lot of charm and is well worth full price if you like the type of game

There will be some goofy situations that are a little janky, but could also be described as good lore. Pirates, for example, when defeated, ask for a ceasefire/surrender. They will use that chance to clandestinely steal from you. If you release their prisoners back to them, they will break the ceasefire soon after. You could interpret that as jank / not fully thought-out programming or as the pirates trying to stab you as soon as your back is turned.

Factions will task you with building a base for them, give you materials, but you can just steal all those or embezzle some of the materials and the sponsoring faction will likely not bat an eye and not try to get these back. Even if you build that base, it will always be smaller & less functional & be almost useless for trade as compared to AI-built bases.

The fights are surprisingly fun though and your crew will be almost starved, almost cooked, have scurvy for lack of vitamins in the early midgame - giving you the perfect story to either start pirating yourself or to keep improving conditions more and more.

It was a perfectly playable game many content patches ago, and it is now.
1000+ hours and I'm very picky and don't play bad games at all.
Still waiting for the next content patch to play it again from the hard start.

Thanks for the helpful replies! I'll pick up the game and give it a go.

Shucks, too late! Wanted to tell you "It's a pretty fun game! And cute gfx! But don't let yourself get annoyed by the tutorials, just play the beginners scenario with hints, that explains enough to have fun".
How do you like it so far? How many of the detailed single-step tutorials (21.. I can't wrap my head around it) did you finish before you gave up?
starting can be tedious i guess.

The tutorial is fine when you play for the first time. And if you dont like it, just turn it off.

I played 40 hours last week and encountered only one minor bug so far. One character was stuck with the pathfinding and I had to give him another move order when boarding to fix it.

Removing a part of my ships hull vented it but I dont know if this is supposed to be a bug or if its intended.

The game was fun so far but I feel like it gets a little repetitive after you are set with a lot of crew (28 for me right now). I the endgame you face a lot of different issues which are mostly being pressured to keep your energy and water levels high. But you will also have enough money to just buy resources you need.

If you are into slow paced games and have the patience to rethink and rebuild your design I would say its worth going for it.

How many crew memebers did you have in that ship?
I personally never made it that far.

Literally on the screenshot description: 44 crew.
Sorry, didn't see it xD

Sounds like a typical American Army infantryman's experience in the sandbox (pick one) during the GWOT years. Not trying to be crass, because I noticed that too. Some times that sort of thing makes me wonder if it was intentionally designed that way, or an actual bug providing real emergent gameplay.
if u like the genre such as other games like rimworld and like retro graphics, sci fi crew management, its good..

theres different roles/playstyles like you can sorta be a pirate or you can be the law enforcement, slaver, anti slaver, good or bad guy, desperate low tech opportunist, high tech factory ship, trader, raider..

my gripe is the faction system- you cant gain useful allies thru gameplay, but you can set them up at game creation, not sure why maxing faction out with a faction has not been made useful yet, but if you set them as ally at game creation they will aid you in combat,

theres a lot of content now tho and the RNG can over lap for some random oh wow moments.. has a lot of option to adjust the difficulty
