How to use point defense?
Hi. I have trouble with the new point defense sytem. I have a turret placed in the middle of my ship with his range circle reaching far ouside the ship. I have an operations console placed and manned by a crew member. He's head even pops in operations slot in "attack system and power control view". Selecting group 1 highlights the turret. Both turret and console are powered and there are no issue icons on any of them. Turret head even rotates in random directions like it's looking for targets.

Still there is literally zero reaction of turret towards aproaching asteroids and I'm constantly getting hit by them. What am I missing? Is there some switch to make it shoot asteroids?

First of all you need a Point defense turret and a crew member being able to operate the operation console. Your turret also needs power to work, also check the settings if you transfer the power to your turrets. I heared sometimes there is a bug from preventing them to work at all. In my case my only capable crew member was stuck in operating the console until stamina run out.

So you just have read the title of my post and nothing below it...

I fullfill all the requirements for it to work, so I guess your "it's bugged" theory is most realistic here.

I am not entirely sure but the outer PD circle might be the detection range. The actual firing-range seems to be smaller. Try placing 1-2 PDs on the ships sides and see if they work there.

There is no switch for the PDs and the crews skill in operations is the speed/ablity they are able to retarget the gun, so even a crewmember with some "1" should be able to get some shots out.

Fruthermore one PD will not be enough on its own as asteroids and their pieces have a chance to pierce the shields and still damage your ship.

I moved my point defense to the very edge of the ship and it got literally hit by an asteroid. No single shot was fired. While doing that, a trader ship jumped into my space and their point defense do work and have very large range (I compared it with the orange circle when placing new turret and it seems to actually be the shooting range.)

Can you post some screenshots of the pd and also the pd group listing in the attack systems menu?

In the attack systems menu, stop or some other disabling setting is not toggled on?

Is your Point Defense only partially covered by a power node?

Seems there is a bug with that, try making the pd fully covered and it should start working with someone at operations console.

We will patch the bug early next week.

However, please confirm this was the case regarding your pd not working.

It works! My power node only covered 2 turret tiles, including the top square of the turret with the bolt drawing. That's why I did not get a prompt that object is not powered. I moved the power grid to cover all turret tiles and it works. Thank you for response.
