There is not a way in-game. There's a way to mod for more ship points though:

You can also come join our Discord where modders have their own channel for modding related questions:

Imagine calling them lazy when they are prioritising more important things to develop.
but some of us do want something so we'll hav to circavent the tridtional setting aka modding. to get what we want.
But i do realise that there shold be an option to add size to your current ship other then start out with a 3x2 canvise. not sure how much coding it'll take to hav an ingame editor to increase or decrease size. But that style comes with it's own set of abusive play too.
my idea is for ships to dock togther and then you can merge em :D
i believe the game delopers are doing a great job. And they might make it easyer for modding later when, we got more of a finshed product.
This does't apply to power. In the game there are many abandoned ships that can be picked up. Having reached the 4th star, there are already 4 such ships, but only one can be accepted into the fleet. Then what is the point of filling the game world with such a number of abandoned ships, if the fleet can not be increased?
Then create a separate ship, which will be super expensive, but it is needed to expand the fleet. Collecting resources makes sense as long as they have somewhere to invest-blocks for building new ships.
Developers make their games based on their own ideas and visions. It is not their job to cave in to the whim of every numpty who doesn't like the way a particular feature works. That is what modders are for... changing the base game for those who want it changed, while leaving the rest of us to play as the developers intended.
But let me guess... you've never made a mod in your life have you? You've always left that to other people too, right? So who is really the lazy one here...?
your limited to how much weapons and armor your ship but multiply that number with the ammount of ships in the fleet, and you'll see why there is a limiting factor on both sides. So yes It does apply to power.
Sadly incoming ships or areas with pirates or other nastys gets out classed fast agaist big fleet. 3-5 cannons is abit of a fair fight, 7-10 is just a slaugther on any incoming ship.
Adding a ton of fleet points could easily make the games balance broken or not even have enough room to place your ships.
If you want to do it as it's been said you are allowed to with mods much like in other games offer.
This game is not about the war with pirates, but about research, crafting, survival and trading. And it should be about a huge fleet, as described in the found records. And what are you arguing about? The developers have already said that they will increase the number of fleet points in the next patch.
