That's your only choice at this point...
There has been quite a few threads regarding tech changes to capture ships intact.
Such as ION Cannons that EMP the engines, then when you board them you get the ship whole.
Optimally there would be a choice of weapons too, non-lethal options to capture enemy crew.
Then you can order your guy on the medical bed.
But I suspect I'm missing the ability to have my medic work on them
This is because claimable ships give back 100% of the resources used to make then (mins hull) so it would make raiding an enemy ship the most efficient way to get rare resources making the game overall to easy even though it would make logical sense.
Anyway, I think Kasa explained it all.
The downside of being able to reconfigure your ship entirely with no loss is that if you apply the same logic to claimed ship you break any semblance of balance.
