Even now I (or rather my ship) carry the sins (Infra scrap) of greed (unchecked salvaging) from early days of my game. Have been selling/throwing them to neutral traders every time I see one, but still left with more than 500 of them choking up my storage...
imo, the "Eject Item" command from the ship should allow you to select items from storage as an alternative...
Its easier to just trade away goods for money (or nothing) whenever a friendly ship enters the same system.
Edit: Me? I just build more storage.
