If you want to catch prisoners of war, you need to force them with guns, or they will die soon

Reminder that unconscious hostiles are not prisoners yet unless they are taken as prisoners before they fall unconscious. If you carry them back to your ship, they will attack you when they wake up.
If you win a space battle, the whole ship runs out of Oxy, if your timing is right you can get in there while they're not quite dead yet, but surrender easily. If your crew is small that helps alot, since pirates are coming with more poeple and better weopons.

But yeah, they''ll die if you ignore it.

Not necessarily, I had a pirate crew survive 3 days in a destroyed ship. Not sure if it was a bug or they were just lucky enough to have part of their ship still powered and breathable. But every time id go to check on them, they were very much alive, and not even wearing space suits.

I think the other ships should follow same rules as your own ship. or at least I hope so. So there is probably a chance that they can still stay alive if their facilities and stockpiles are intact, but there probably is a limit. Not sure if they are smart enough to close door vents to hull breaches though. Or they could be just lucky that some rooms were air-tight from the start?

When salvaging pirate ships, sometimes I get water coming out of nowhere (I set everything to be moved out earlier). Either this is produced while I am salvaging, or removed from facilities as they are torn down? It hints that the machines were still functional.

Learned that the hard way...

Had the following strange things happen:

Scenario 1:
Just killed a pirate ship when an Android ship jumped in.
I shared vision with the Android ship.
I was waiting for the pirates to die but the Androids sent their own shuttle to the pirate ship.
Saw that all the Androids on the shuttle were captured or killed by the pirates.
Waited for them all to die and scrapped the Pirate ship.
On the Android ship there were 3 crew remaining.
They decided to board another derelict that hadn't been cleaned out yet.
Didn't see what exactly happened there but their shuttle returned empty to the Android main ship.
I couldn't board the Android ship without declaring a war so I left the sector.
Didn't wait around to see if it would turn derelict.
Once arrived in the new sector, the empty android ship immediately jumped in and turned into a derelict... which I could take and scrap.

Scenario 2:
Killed a Pirate Ship with a Merchant ship in the same sector.
The Merchants sent their own shuttle to the pirate ship before I was able to get there... I wanted to take prisoners.
Didn't see what happened but their shuttle returned to the mother ship pretty quickly.
When I arrived, I killed a couple and took the rest as prisoners. Took all prisoners to my own ship.
At first I didn't notice that one of my prisoners originally was a Merchant that was taken prisoner by the Pirates.
So now I had a Merchant prisoner on my ship that I couldn't recruit because I wasn't (and didn't want to be) at war with the Merchants.
So I set her free... on my ship, in the hope that she would be picked up once I would meet another Merchant ship.
She walked around a bit and finally died (of starvation I think).

no its random depends on what got destroyed, i've seen them begin repairs but cant remember if they surrendered or nnot

they will always attempt to repair once destroyed, i think it comes down to what stores they have on board. Ive had pirates survive being destroyed and repair enough to start recovering hull, ive also had destroyed pirates die off in under 2 days. Almost positive it comes down to if they have all the repair components on board that are required to stabilize

If they don't have a room still fully standing with an oxygen generator in it... Yes, they will.

yea im pretty sure it does depend on their supplies are not drawn from an infinate universal pool they use their supplies for rep and survival, a lone surviving cultist bribed us to end war and he alone was living in his wreck i saw him doing logi and slowing repping it
