Run out of hull blocks?
What is the best way to combat this, I tried to reclaim some from my own ship but this just lead to no oxygen( even though I built a wall) next time I managed to trade for some hull blocks, question is what is the best way to get more for noob players?

Build them with the Assembler. You need metal though which you get through smelting, mining the two ores required to do so.
Early game?

Depending on the game you start as, either on the abandoned mining station or platform. You want to first aim in getting the basics, make sure you got enough beds for the crew, food and water filter, stuff like that.

You also then want to build a refiner/smelter, if you look through the resource stuff it'll tell you what each item makes. You want to build that, mine silver and black looking ore, then build a assembler, you want to smelt the two resources into metal sheets. Which can then be used to build Hull blocks with the Assembler in Early game.

You can also use a Recycling machine to turn scraps of metal into usefull blocks.

Medium difficulty is brutal early game. I can barely squeeze out a functioning ship with 2 ftl drives and 5 hyper sleep beds. I found that only building walls for your toilet and grow room to make it much easier. With station start I haven't been able to build a ship that can get by with one ftl drive. Always end up needing to build 2nd one when I load the hsip down with everything from the station.
Thanks guys, great game but a bit jumbled up, hoping for a lot more things added as game progresses.

The way the game is laid out, there are 3 common building blocks, and 2 rare ones. Softblocks, infrablocks, and hull blocks are your common blocks. All of those can be made from scrap with the recycler. So you can produce them with a single machine. With scrap being harvested for free from derelicts. The down side is harvesting scrap takes time, and it takes up twice the room of regular blocks. You need two scrap to produce one new block.

Producing your own blocks will ultimately be faster, but requires you to have mined the right raw materials. And requires you to have a smelter refine the raw ore. Then an assembler to take the refined metal into blocks.

Early game you are better off recycling, mid to late game you will want to produce your own.

The rare blocks are much much harder to get. Those are tech blocks and power blocks. Rare blocks can not be made from scrap in a recycler. Getting enough of these can be a serious pain. And can require 4 or more separate fabricators to produce. If you find them by salvage, hoard them.

The Tech Blocks are the ones I am having problems getting enough of as there are no module that at this point you can fabricate them..so shields, weapons, anything advanced requires them..why is there not an advanced tech that would allow you to make these?

You can manufacture tech blocks. Look at Advanced Assembler under resources.

wow I must have clicked on all the tabs multiple times , up and down arrows etc. until now they never moved for me..so I thought there wasn't any more items...thanks for making me take another look.

XD resource is the only tab with an extra page and... surprise! its the advanced blocks absolutely necessary to get anywhere

Once you get the hang of juggling resource buildings early game (construct and destruct resource production buildings as you need them) and keeping a small ship (size is a luxury as long as you have enough room for what you need at that moment) you will find the game super easy.

Also don't worry about having a lot of ship defenses when you can't afford them. It's easy enough to run away from fights.

Recycling scrap is normally a bad use of time. Best to just make the resources directly through the chain starting with metals.

So mine and collect ready to use resources from derelict ships.

One other good source (but random) I find early game is claiming "claimable" ships instead of abandoning. If you dismantle the ship manually (instead of salvaging an abandoned ship) you get the blocks directly, instead of scrap which is so-crap in terms of logistics and time.

The only problem is that you need spare ship points to claim ships. If you already used up all your ship points in your fleet, then this option is no longer possible.

btw there is an edit button which lets you start a game with more resources. You can even add extra troops or spawn in a zone that starts with 3 derelect ships or even salvageable ships. Use this power at your discretion :D

If you say so. That's what I took for my first game and I immediately regretted not going to harsh. It's way too easy.

Harsh is basically the same. Both are brutal because you spend more time moving everything around after getting more resources to expand. Biggest time sink in this shallow game.
