How do you use the recycler?

I can't seem to find a way to get the recyclable items from storage to the recycler. I can't seem to directly tell the crew to move the items from the storage area to the recycler. I just started the game yesterday so it's probably an issue of setting up some sort of rule, but I haven't deciphered how those work yet.

select your facility (recycler included), there should be a recycle/refine/fabricate tab (2nd one usually). Select it and either set a one time order or a standing if/continuous order. The rest should be automatic.

I think one of your crew members needs the "industry" skill.
Then you need the right scrap for the right item and then your people just work on the work orders you give in the recycler.

If they have all the things stated above and they don't do this, then perhaps you've build the recycvler in a wrong place or your people have some problems with theb work (perhaps a bad trait or something like that).
