I've found that the game is easiest when you have a good cash flow, though it may sound tedious. Always start with Finn and Jake to begin with, save your cash until you can purchase Finn's "Brofist" upgrade. From there, you can either use Flame Princess or Sai as your powerhouse characters to deal damage. Jake and Princess Bubblegum (Default) can be used as support to amplify the range and attack statistics of the nearby allies.
Ice King comes in handy when you need to slow enemies down, and damage them at the same time.
But if push comes to shove when it comes to a lack of funding. You can pay for a 2 wave long power-up that increases your income per balloon pop at the cost of 50 coin. Paying 50 coin for such support is better than paying 1000 by the final round in attempt to survive.
Thats the base of it, the rest of what you choose to put in is up to you. If you happen to have BMO. Its helpful to use him, and have Princess Bubblegum (Warrior) increase the amount of times you can use him too.

I just re-read what you said and didn't realize you had a shortage of members in your team. Its best to collect a number of characters before progressing in the impossible section. Allies do measly damage compared to the base characters.
I've since unlocked the rest of the characters that you don't have to pay for. I can do extremes fairly consistently without much trouble. My build order is Jake/Finn -> BMO -> BMO+ -> FP -> BROFIST. I can usually make it to brofist and BMO max at about wave 14/15 from there on I grab SM and IK and start upgrading.
I guess what i'm specifically looking for is if there are any weapons/trinkets that handle the final torpedo MOABs that spawn after round 70. is sun god upgrade enough?
Particularly, Jake and Princess Bubblegum. They enhance the range of characters near them. The more range you can cover, the more damage you'll be able to deal. The same goes for speed. If you have speed cards, I'd apply them to max. He basically turns into a gatling gun with how fast he can fire. Also, his ability is focused on popping a number of moabs in his range.

There are... Other cheap methods to win the game, but. I won't spoil them because I'd rather not see them get patched.
List of Importance
- Bundle Characters Within Range of Each Other. ( Max Provides Camo Detection / Jake Provides Speed & Range / Princess Bubblegum provides Range. )
- Place Allies Within Range of Ally Buffer Characters. ( Flame Princess Increases Allies Speed / Cassie Increases Allies Range. )
- Increase Speed/Range for Powerhouse Characters ( Max / Sai / Flame Princess )
- Increase Pierce/Range/BlastRadius for Explosive Allies ( C4 Charlie / Cassie )
= Charlie and Cassie are your best bet for quick moab destruction. Focus on them rather than Super Monkey. They're more beneficial. Super Monkey is more focused towards taking down waves of bloons quickly. Hes useful if your enemies are regenerating bloons.
- Increase Range for Support Characters ( Jake / Princess Bubblegum / Ice King: Slows Down Enemies Within Range. )
- Increase Speed/Damage for Melee Characters ( Finn / Warrior Princess )
- Increase Effects of Abilities That Require Nearby Characters For: Finn ( Brofist income increase. )
- Ranged Allies Preferably, Muscle Princess and Rattleballs can be a useful combination for Melee though. Muscle deals knock back damage and stun damage. Stun will help nearby allies take down the target and knock back will provide time for BMO to earn cash. Rattleballs is extremely fast, if in range of Flame Princess. Even faster.

Try not to miss the alerts, if your Characters can reach level 5 preferably, or 4 at best. That should be enough to help you conquer your first impoppable.
Its tedious really, if theres anything I would change about the game. Its an increase in tokens.
Easy - 1
Hard - 3
Extreme - 5
Impoppable - 7
I mean, at least that way. Leveling your characters wouldn't look as "pay to win" as people refer to it as.
But otherwise, yeah. No. Every 3 hours there will be a new alert. Gotta keep an eye out. Best advice I can offer sadly.
I have maybe 1 or 2 maps which I haven't completed on extreme. I guess I need to level up PB then
The modifications you use on your characters play a large role. Honestly, there are a lot of maps I haven't even bothered to finish on Normal and just jumped the gun to Extreme then Impoppable.
Save your shards, complete as many quests as you can. Pop open as many Super Rare Orbs as you can. Overtime, you'll find that you have decent modifications. Your mods will always be more effective than any upgrade.
Cash flow is important sure, but being able to buy all the upgrades instantly won't make a difference. You'll only end up with all your characters on the field like you did before, all of them incapable of dealing the correct amount of damage.
At this point, its just. You do you. You'll get the hang of it eventually.
If you don't feel like using Royal Decree, the cheapest money powerup (increased value for balloons popped) near the last levels of impoppable gives you like 30,000 right there too.
Yeah, I already handed him that advice. He doesn't seem to have an issue with getting all his characters upgraded and on the field however. Hes established that he already achieves such using BMO. Tedious, but gets the job done. The only issue he has is that his characters aren't strong enough or fast enough to take down the bloons.
So it isn't about the cash, the situation is about the modifications he uses.
Princess Bubblegum is useful against most camo bloons as removes their camo properties, sadly. That doesn't apply to moabs.
Cassie is okay, she grants camo detection to nearby allies through her crows nest upgrade. Being a bomb expert is a bonus towards moabs too. Sadly, not a lot of maps have water available. So, you can't rely on her forever.
Max is the best in that situation, he upgrades to be capable of detecting camo bloons. His ability focuses on popping moabs. Increase his speed / range and you'll find how well he works.
Or, if you stumble upon the Glasses card or Night Vision card. Equip those to your most suited character who lacks camo detection. (Super Monkey especially.)
There is also a card that grants the ability to speed up your characters attacks temporarily. You can equip the card to a number of characters. This ability is especially useful with Sai, Max and Flame Princess as they bare upgrades allowing them camo detection.
