Story makes no sense....
After looking into this game I'm a bit concerned when it comes to the story aspect of this game.

First from the ONLY post in the devlog the developer states;
"In the world of EW, human societies are isolated and shrinking, due to some severe environmental problem. You will be playing a ‘father’ with a following ‘daughter’ , and go through this post-apocalyptic world ( well that does sound familiar … )."

So from this you can see that the male you are playing is the father and the white haired girl is the daughter. Then I came across the following on the new Eastward site;
"The human population has shrunk to an all-time low as strange creatures descend upon the cities. In a small town, a hardworking digger discovers a mysterious young girl in a secret facility deep underground…"

So now the male you are playing is a "hardworking digger" and the white haired girl is "a mysterious young girl"? Seeing this I went back to the blog and realized the developer also said "We hope it will be like a Zelda game with some JRPG style storyline."

Granted JRPGs storylines don't always make sense because Japanese developers (like the Eastward 3 man dev team) are odd to Western customers like myself. Then I went back to the new Eastward website and saw under features it said "Single player, dual character adventure RPG with puzzle-solving and dungeon elements"

Okay so it went from an "Action Adventure" game to now being a "RPG/Puzzle" game.

TLDR; The developers have conflicting story elements on their site and blog along with conflicting genres for the game which should make anyone question how well this game will turn out.

I know nothing about the game, but I see no contradiction on what you are saying, Zelda games are not just action RPGs, they have a lot of puzzles to solve, and if the main character finds a little girl, it's not strange to become her father figure.

Glad to see there are fanboys for games not even close to coming out.

Try re-reading the explanation, with direct quotes, instead of inferring what you want to see.

Well, the devlog you quoted is from 2015, and that already is a huge point against your argumentation.
A game's development doesn't start and everyone already knows what the end-product is gonna be. The development process includes a lot of changed/additions/subtractions of features or story elements.

I can very well understand that the devs at first planned out for the two protagonists to be father and daughter, but at some point during development in those 3 years changed that, or, since the page says "father" and "daughter" in quotation, they also could've easily meant a father-daughter >sort of< relationship, without them being related by blood.

And the game from goin to Action Adventure to RPG/Puzzle is also nothing I see as weird.
Games changing their genres during development is something that happens daily.

Many games receive extra elements like puzzles/collectables during the later parts of development, when the developers feel the game could need a little more things to do.
They designed the game from scratch and had combat and all in the beginning, then at some point also added puzzles into the mix because it maybe didn't feel fun to run around gunning and shooting for hours without anything besides that.
