Pineleaf Studios
– 100,000 players worldwide said they had us on the game wish list when we launched Dwarfheim worldwide in September last year. Only 30,000 bought Dwarfheim.
Despite the downturn, Søvig says that she is proud of what the team has achieved. However, she admits that the project may have been too ambitious.
– We launched a game many said they wanted, and we refined it further according to the wishes of the players. But then there is the fact that there is fierce competition. We wanted to revolutionize the game genre and it was perhaps too ambitious. We stand for it anyway. We are proud of what we have achieved.
Pineleaf had ten employees – down from 19 in 2020 – who were all laid off when the bankruptcy petition came in. At the same time, the company has a total debt of 6.1 million. John Aksel Stav from Bjerkan Stav Advokatfirma has taken on the job as trustee, and will assist both employees and creditors in ensuring that they get what they are entitled to.
Case in point, I only just bought this game on sale for 66% off.
I had this game on wish list for a very long time, but like many early access games I try to avoid purchasing something that's unclear on how well the games are being developed. Watching recent reviews over periods of time always kept me on the fence. There were obvious issues, and the community were eager to voice their concerns which hurts sales.
Although I'm not sure how a indie company can go in 6.1m in debt.. to me that's either fraud or complete incompetence to reach such a stage. I worked for a software company that went into a 1m debt over the course of it's life.. so I have an idea what could contribute to that.. but over 6m? what the... what were these people doing? It makes absolutely zero sense to me how any company could go that far deep in the hole. It honestly kind of pisses me off that this was managed like this. What a waste!
They did not have 6.1$ million in debut, but 6.1 million NOK (~700k USD).
